Brendan Fraser sobbed as he earned a standing ovation for his most recent film, The Whale, at the Venice Film Festival.

The actor, who has been battling melancholy while dealing with allegations of sexual assault, bowed as he was greeted by a thunderous round of applause.

The 53-year-old grinned and fought back tears as he began to weep up after last night’s festival’s emotional response.

His homecoming was warmly welcomed by friends, admirers, and fellow actors Dwayne Johnson and The Rock, who both expressed their support for his future success.

Fans and friends on Twitter praised Fraser’s response, and star Dwayne Johnson wrote a heartfelt note of encouragement.

“Man, seeing this wonderful standing ovation for Brendan makes me so happy.” He encouraged me to apply for my first job in his Mummy Returns franchise, which launched my Hollywood career.
