Brendan Fraser sheds tears as The Whale receives a standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival: the actor eschewed the spotlight following claims of depression and sexual assault

Brendan Fraser sobbed as he earned a standing ovation for his most recent film, The Whale, at the Venice Film Festival.

The actor, who has been battling melancholy while dealing with allegations of sexual assault, bowed as he was greeted by a thunderous round of applause.

The 53-year-old grinned and fought back tears as he began to weep up after last night’s festival’s emotional response.

His homecoming was warmly welcomed by friends, admirers, and fellow actors Dwayne Johnson and The Rock, who both expressed their support for his future success.

The film represents the illustrious star’s comeback after she battled depression in the wake of a sexual assault accusation and spent time in and out of the hospital due to health difficulties.

Brendan Fraser attempted to leave the theatre during the rousing standing ovation for “The Whale,” but was persuaded to stay by the cheers of the audience.

Fraser was seen becoming upset during the lengthy six-minute standing ovation for the movie in video posted on social media.

He is first shown sitting down, and then 53-year-old director Darren Aronofsky motions for him to stand up, to the roar of the audience.

In a dark grey suit, a brilliant blue tie, and black dress shoes, the Mummy’s main man looked dapper.

Fans and friends on Twitter praised Fraser’s response, and star Dwayne Johnson wrote a heartfelt note of encouragement.

“Man, seeing this wonderful standing ovation for Brendan makes me so happy.” He encouraged me to apply for my first job in his Mummy Returns franchise, which launched my Hollywood career.
