publication of an unseen photo of Queen Elizabeth grinning following her 96th birthday

The death of Queen Elizabeth was one of the few historical occasions that truly brought the UK together.

The Queen may have passed away, but that shouldn’t change the fact that since the news of her passing broke, Buckingham Palace has been the focus of the world’s attention almost exclusively. After all, the show must go on.

It’s safe to say that millions of people, each in their own way, will miss Her Majesty. Her family and the employees, who spend a large portion of their working lives in and around her presence, will undoubtedly feel her loss the most deeply.

But because of the size of her position, Queen Elizabeth developed an almost maternal aura, at least among the people of the UK.

After all, Elizabeth ruled for more than 70 years, and during that time, she won the hearts and minds of almost all of her subjects by being kind and compassionate.

We so finally say farewell to her with aching hearts, even if her memory will definitely endure throughout time. We can be satisfied with the stories and images of the late Queen Elizabeth in the coming weeks, including one previously unseen photo that made headlines last week.

Queen Elizabeth was so much more than only a monarch or a figurehead. She served as a symbol of the past and the present, an institution and an icon.

She held the throne of England for 70 years, which is nothing short of remarkable. The tributes that were paid to her after her death attest to both the popularity of the monarch throughout the nation and the success of her reign.

In fact, throughout the past two weeks, mourning for Queen Elizabeth has not just been limited to the Royal Family. No, millions sense her loss instead.

The Queen’s death was originally reported on Thursday of the previous week. She had been the subject of concerning claims throughout the day that she was ill, and the seriousness of the reports was proven when royals from around the UK and abroad started to go to the monarch’s Balmoral residence.

On Thursday, September 8, Buckingham Palace released the following statement:

“The Queen passed away quietly this afternoon at Balmoral. The King and the Queen Consort will spend this evening and tomorrow in Balmoral before travelling back to London.

The Queen’s eldest son and heir, Charles – the former Prince of Wales – has now become King of the United Kingdom and the 14 Commonwealth realms.

In a statement, King Charles said, “The passing of my dear Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the deepest anguish for me and all members of my family.

“We deeply lament the loss of a beloved Mother and beloved Sovereign. I am confident that the nation, the Realms, the Commonwealth, as well as a large number of people all over the world, will be devastated by her passing.

“My family and I shall be comforted and strengthened during this season of loss and change,” King Charles continued, “by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection with which The Queen was so universally held.”

In fact, a large portion of the world observed a moment of silence on Monday to honour Queen Elizabeth as she travelled to her final resting place. The burial was attended by 2,000 individuals, many of them international leaders and other notable figures, while the Royal Family is rumoured to have held their own private service later in the day.

It should go without saying that the Queen’s burial was a lavish event that was broadcast to millions of viewers worldwide. They tuned in to commemorate the momentous occasion from every angle, and due to the extensive coverage, nothing was missed.
