Georgia Holt, the mother of Cher, passed away at the age of 96
Holt, who was also an actor, director, and model in addition to being a singer-songwriter in her own right, was perhaps best recognised for her performances in “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet” (1955). Along with films like “Father’s Little Dividend” and “Lovely to Look At” from the same decade, she also starred in 1956’s “I Love Lucy.”
In 2013, Holt made available her 1980s-era debut album, “Honky Tonk Woman,” which she had previously recorded.
According to USA Today, Holt was the subject of the Life documentary “Dear Mom, Love Cher” that was released in 2013. The one-hour special examined the history of her family through interviews with Holt, her daughters Cher and Georganne LaPiere, as well as Cher’s children Chaz Bono and Elijah Blue Allman, also known as P. Exeter Blue and Chaz Bono.
After finding tapes of the aforementioned, never-before-released album Holt had made with Elvis Presley’s band in 1980, the concept for the documentary was born.
Cher filmed her mother talking and singing to go along with the tapes after having them restored. What Cher first thought would be a pleasant endeavour to honour her mother’s 86th birthday evolved into something much bigger and more comprehensive.
Holt, who was born in 1926 to a mother who was 13 and a father who was 20, began singing in Oklahoma saloons when she was a young child before going to Hollywood to try to find recognition as an actress and singer.
Soon after Cher was born, she was divorced from her first husband, a truck driver named John Sarkisian, and put Cher in a Catholic orphanage.
In 2013, Cher stated in “Dear Mom,” “I heard the abortion story when I was a teenager.”
My mother has always found the orphanage narrative to be sensitive, so she resisted talking about it. Why didn’t you just march in and take me, I asked my mother. I didn’t have the power, she claimed. I had neither a work nor any money, but the religion was quite powerful. Every day when I would see you, you would be sobbing. You have no idea how it was. Women had it harder back then.
For Cher, the passing of her mother occurs just as the rest of her life appears to be going extremely well. She only recently made headlines on social media when she revealed that she is now seeing a man who is about 36 years her junior.
Alexander Edwards, a 36-year-old music producer, is that person.
Love doesn’t know math, Cher said, adding that she had already introduced Edwards to the rest of her family. Her remark was likely directed at people who questioned the new couple’s wide age disparity (Cher is 76, while her boyfriend is less than half that at 36).
Cher claims that she and Edwards first connected at Paris Fashion Week in October. We won’t pretend to be mathematicians of the future, but their love is still very much in the honeymoon stage.
Nevertheless, many Cher fans stated how pleased it made them to see her in such a good mood.
In response to the more guarded Cher supporters who might have seen Edwards as a danger, Cher said: “As we All Know…
I wasn’t born yesterday, and despite what I can be certain of, nothing is guaranteed. Every time you choose, you run the risk. I’ve always gambled… I am because of it.
In addition, the 76-year-old addressed the age difference directly, saying: “Love doesn’t know math, it sees [red heart emojis].” Some people “meet,” Rinpoche said, while others “recognise.”
Cher has indeed experienced enough to make one believe that she is more than capable of recognising warning signs if any exist. The singer, actress, and television personality has been a true star since the 1960s. She first rose to fame with her husband Sonny Bono and then quickly rose to the very top of the music business.
Edwards has had some success in the music industry so far, despite not having a name or brand comparable to the iconic Cher’s. He is the vice president of A&R at the renowned record company, where his list of artists includes Rihanna, Nas, Public Enemy, and Justin Bieber, and he is only 36 years old.
