Many of the actors that were a part of it gained success in Hollywood, notably Ralph Macchio, who subsequently became known as the Karate Kid, and Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars trilogy. That wasn’t the case with Rich, though. He endured some difficult moments that often forced him into rehab as he struggled to find work over time.

Adam was really well-liked (on Eight is Enough), but after that, Van Patten told UPI, “he had a lot of difficulties landing gigs.” He’s short and in that weird stage where he’s not as cute as he once was, so casting him is challenging.
Rich appeared in The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, The Six Million Dollar Man, and one episode of Baywatch in 1993 in addition to Eight is Enough.
He added, “I don’t know why this happened, but I know I am sick,” in an interview with the Orlando Sentinel in 1991. I am afflicted. I am truly sorry and ashamed of myself for this entire incident. I began to understand that I had been working since I was 15 years old.
I was so worn out that I thought I was almost ready to retire. I believe it was a rebellious move on my part to say, “Hey, I’m not adorable little Nicholas,” and I started hanging out with the wrong crowd.
