The SAG Awards were probably Christina Applegate’s “final award events as an actor,” as she makes retirement hints
Christina Applegate has made hints that she might be close to retiring.
The multiple sclerosis patient and star of Dead to Me admitted to the Los Angeles Times that the SAG Awards would probably be her final performance as an actor.
The actress and her 12-year-old daughter Sadie Grace walked the red carpet together at the event on February 27. She carried a cane with the initials “FU MS,” which had become a part of her new normal.
For her portrayal of Jen Harding in Netflix’s Dead to Me, the well-liked actress was nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a comedy series.
The nomination marked her sixth overall.
But regrettably, the 51-year-old is unlikely to appear frequently in the near future.
It’s kind of a big thing since it’s probably my last awards show as an actress, Applegate stated before to the ceremony.
“Right now, I couldn’t picture waking up at 5 in the morning and working for 12 to 14 hours on a set; I don’t have that in me,” Applegate said.
The Married with Children veteran received her MS diagnosis while she was filming the third and final season of Dead to Me in 2021.
She had to stop the act in order to get medical attention, but she was adamant about finishing it. It took her a few months after the film’s premiere, though, before she could see herself in Married with Children.
She said, “I don’t like seeing myself struggle.
Also, due to inactivity and drugs, I put on 40 pounds, which made me feel and look unrecognisable.
When she started filming again, she noticed that everything had changed significantly.
“Every day I was a wreck, but the majority of that wreck would happen in my trailer by myself. But, there were occasions when I’d have to leave the set because I needed a break for a half-hour since everyone was so supportive.
Applegate was questioned about her life following Dead to Me in November.
Finding my capabilities is important, she told Variety.
Her ability to put in long hours for days on end is long gone. Applegate now has to learn how to live with a chronic condition.
I’m just getting started with all of this. So although I’m trying to understand it, I’m also grieving for the person I used to be. When I say, “Hey, I can only work five hours,’ they won’t treat me like a princess, so I need to find a location that’s as nice as my set.”
Applegate said that if she wanted to act once more, she would have to “find a place that will let me [work five hours] if I’m not the star.”
She has made great strides in her health, but she is still unsure if acting is in her future.
This was it, I’m quite sure about it, you know? Who knows, though; I’ll probably grow to hate spending time alone in my room. I want to create things and develop things. I just need to put my ideas into action since I have so many in my head.
She is interested in “doing a s— tonne of voice-overs to make some money to make sure that my daughter is fed and we’re home” if producing or developing don’t work out.
I hope Christina Applegate is aware of the wonderful job she has done for fans over the past many decades, regardless of what she decides to do with her future.
