Royal expert reveals King Charles’ surprising demand when travelling
It has always been a royal thing to travel in elegance. When members of the royal family are out conducting royal responsibilities, you can be sure that you’ll witness some unusual modes of transportation, from specially outfitted automobiles to yachts and private planes.
In addition, they must make a list of the items they will carry, as each monarch, including King Charles, has specific needs.
The Commonwealth and other countries will be visited by King Charles and Queen Camilla on their first formal journey as king and queen next year. And when doing so, the monarch seems to have a certain list of opulent requirements.
Paul Burrell, Princess Diana’s former butler, claims that Charles enjoys exceptional service at home. In fact, such a ridiculous assertion was made regarding the king’s travelling bathroom needs. Something that apparently incensed the queen and the now-king.
The past few months have been very stressful for the royal family. A lot of planning, discussions, and effort went into King Charles’ coronation, and the monarch just held his second “coronation” in Scotland.
Those opposed to the monarchy have contended that the royal family should have covered the full cost of the coronation instead of tax payers. Just a few days ago, King Charles and the royal family were once again in the news due to financial issues.
The previous Prince of Wales was referred to by his servants as the “Pampered Prince” at his home in Clarence House. Paul Burrell, Diana’s former butler, asserted in the television series Serving the Royals: Inside the Firm that Charles had “everything done for him.”
The bath plug must be in a specific position, the water temperature must be just tepid, and his pyjamas are ironed every morning, according to Burrell, who also noted that the now-king “has his valets squeeze one inch of toothpaste onto his toothbrush every morning.”
Beginning in 1987, Paul Burrell worked for Charles and Diana at Highgrove House, where the princess lived until her death in 1997. Diana allegedly told him he was the “only man” she trusted, according to him. He further stated in Serving the Royals: Inside the Firm that King Charles is particular about the temperature of his bath and requires that the tub be “only half full.”
Another rather ludicrous assertion was made about travelling abroad. For her book The Palace Papers, author and royal specialist Tina Brown consulted with more than 120 insiders and sources.
They described how, the day before his arrival, King Charles purportedly sends a big truck filled with his belongings to friends’ country homes, where they dump his “bed, furniture, and even pictures.
His orthopaedic bed, Kleenex Velvet toilet paper, and even a toilet seat were all included.
The same assertion was made in Prince Charles, Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion, and Defiance of Prince Charles by Tom Bower, published in 2018. He said that King Charles and Camilla had taken his bed, bedding, toilet seat, alcohol, bottled water, and artwork with them when they visited a friend in the north.
