Police Clear Savannah Guthrie’s Family in Nancy Guthrie Disappearance Case

The heartbreaking search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, continues in Arizona. She was last seen on the evening of January 31, after a family member dropped her off at her home near Tucson following a gathering.

Signs pointed to a possible abduction—investigators found evidence of forced entry, and doorbell camera footage captured someone suspicious near the house that night. Several people have been questioned or detained briefly in connection with the case, but Nancy still hasn’t been located.

Early on, some online rumors and speculation swirled around her family, particularly her son-in-law Tommaso Cioni (Savannah’s sister’s husband), since he was the last person known to see her that evening. Those whispers got pretty intense, and it must have added even more pain for everyone involved.

But now there’s a clear update from authorities. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos directly addressed this on Monday, stating that the entire Guthrie family—including all siblings and their spouses—has been fully cleared as possible suspects.

He emphasized how cooperative and gracious the family has been throughout this ordeal, calling them victims themselves. “To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel,” he said. “The Guthrie family are victims plain and simple.”

Law enforcement sources had already been signaling they were moving away from family involvement, and this official statement puts those rumors to rest.

Meanwhile, the investigation keeps moving forward. The FBI analyzed a glove discovered a couple of miles from the home that seems to match ones worn by the person in the doorbell footage. DNA on it didn’t match anyone in national databases (or family/close contacts), so they’re pursuing other avenues like genealogy testing. The reward for information leading to her safe return has doubled to $100,000.

Savannah has shared emotional video pleas, urging anyone with knowledge to come forward and saying the family still holds onto hope.

Our hearts go out to the Guthrie family during this incredibly tough time. We’re all hoping for Nancy’s safe return soon.
