Charlie Kirk’s death in September sent ripples across the world. While many people admired him for his outspoken views and dedication to his beliefs, others saw him as someone who often created division. Several celebrities shared their thoughts at the time, including Jamie Lee Curtis, who later walked back some of her statements.

Amanda Seyfried was among those who spoke out. Shortly after the tragic shooting on September 10, she posted on Instagram calling Kirk “hateful.” That choice of words drew sharp criticism from many who felt it was disrespectful given the circumstances.

A week later, she addressed the killing directly while still standing by her criticism of his views.

“We’re forgetting the nuance of humanity,” she wrote. “I can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk’s murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable.”

She went on to say, “No one should have to experience this level of violence. This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Can we agree on that at least?”

In the caption, she added that she did not want to add fuel to the fire but simply wanted to provide some clarity on something that had been taken out of context. She asked if spirited discussion was not what we should all be aiming for.

Now, months later, Amanda Seyfried has opened up again in an interview with Who What Wear. She remains unapologetic about labeling Kirk as hateful.

“I’m not fing apologizing for that. I mean, for f sake, I commented on one thing. I said something that was based on actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes. What I said was pretty damn factual, and I’m free to have an opinion, of course,” she told the publication.

The Mamma Mia star admitted she thought about deleting the original comment but chose to leave it up. She faced a wave of hateful messages herself, which worried her family and friends about her safety.

“Thank God for Instagram. I was able to give some clarity, and it was about getting my voice back because I felt like it had been stolen and recontextualized — which is what people do, of course,” she explained.

The story continues to spark strong opinions on all sides as people debate how we handle public discourse, especially in the wake of tragedy.
