Lip reader reveals what Trump whispered to Brigitte Macron at the G7 summit

A professional lip reader has shared what she believes Donald Trump said to Brigitte Macron during their notably long handshake at the G7 meeting in France. The moment has sparked plenty of online chatter, especially given some recent tension between Trump and the French first couple.

President Trump arrived at the 2026 G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, where world leaders had gathered to talk about economic issues and global challenges. French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte were there to greet him, and their interaction quickly caught everyone’s attention.

Trump and Emmanuel Macron have a long history of those famously firm handshakes that sometimes look like a contest of strength. This time though, it was Brigitte who found herself in the middle of it. After greeting her with kisses on both cheeks, Trump held onto her hand for around 14 seconds while her husband placed a hand on Trump’s back.

Videos of the exchange spread fast on social media. Many people called the handshake awkward, with one observer joking about it as a “weird handshake tug of war.” Others had stronger opinions, describing the moment as inappropriate, while some saw it differently.

As Brigitte tried to pull her hand away, Trump seemed in no rush to let go, which added to the buzz online.

The timing made it even more interesting. Just a couple of months earlier, Trump had made some pointed remarks about Brigitte and her marriage during a private event. He had criticized France’s stance on certain international matters and took a jab at the Macrons’ relationship.

According to lip reader Nicola Hickling, who spoke with the Daily Mail, there was more to the greeting than just the handshake. She suggested Trump first told Emmanuel Macron something along the lines of “I’m ready for tonight” and then “Pleasure.” Turning to Brigitte, she claimed he said “Hello, sweetheart.” Brigitte reportedly replied with “Happy birthday,” noting that Trump had just turned 80.

Body language expert Judi James also weighed in. She observed that Trump seemed particularly focused on Brigitte, greeting her warmly with open arms and cheek kisses, while Macron tried to join in more actively. James noted that even after the main greeting, Trump kept holding Brigitte’s hand as they moved along, with Macron following behind.

Of course, lip reading interpretations aren’t always perfect and haven’t been independently confirmed here, but the story has definitely fueled plenty of conversation given the recent history between Trump and the French leaders.
