Tearful Savannah Guthrie Speaks Out After Note Claims Her Mom Has Died
Savannah Guthrie opened up with a heavy heart on the Today show today, addressing a devastating new development in her mother Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. The note sent to media outlets suggested that the 84 year old is no longer alive.
“I love you guys and I love this place,” she told her co hosts, her voice breaking with emotion during the June 23 episode. “This is unusual and unprecedented to say the least to be sitting here. But I don’t have any comment on this story and I’m not involved in our coverage but I can’t pretend I’m not here. And so since I am I wanted to take the opportunity to ask people to beg people to come forward somebody knows something.”

She went on to share how this has affected her family deeply. “And this is a new story today that’s on your radar but this is the life that my sister lives I live that my brother lives that our extended family lives that our children live every day and we are in agony. And we cannot be at peace. No matter how much I try to come out here every day and smile and find that joy I will. I promise I will. This is the moment to tell you that we need your help. We’re begging for your help… We love our mom and we’ll never stop looking for her ever.”
Nancy Guthrie was first reported missing back on February 1 after she was believed to have been taken from her home in Tucson Arizona. Just recently a second note reached media outlets claiming she had died during the ordeal. The first one had said she was safe and demanded ransom while this latest message offered no apology or money request. Authorities say both notes appear potentially credible.

The family has been through an unimaginable nightmare since those early days. Savannah and her siblings Camron and Annie had previously pleaded directly to anyone holding their mother. They offered to pay for her safe return and begged for any information that could bring her home whether for a joyful reunion or to lay her to rest properly. They even put up a million dollar reward at one point.
Police treated Nancy’s home as a crime scene right from the start with homicide detectives involved due to suspicious circumstances. The 84 year old had limited mobility and needed daily medication to survive something she likely didn’t have after vanishing. Surveillance footage showed a masked person approaching the house around the time she went missing and DNA evidence was also collected.

Throughout the investigation Savannah has balanced her public role with private pain often turning to faith and her Today family for support. Her co anchors rallied around her with love and prayers urging viewers to help in any way they could.
Even as new details emerge the family continues to hold onto hope while desperately seeking answers. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. The search for Nancy and the truth behind what happened to her remains very much active.
