Barbara Eden is 91, see her today
I Dream of Jeannie will always be that classic 1960s sitcom that has generations of viewers. It all revolves around an astronaut who brings home a 2,000-year-old female genie.
Barbara Eden played the role of Jeannie and thanks to her the series was hearty to watch and had a lot of viewers tuning in.
Barbara is 91 years today and she’s doing quite great apart from the things she’s been through.
In an interview with the Hollywood reporter in 2021, she feels age is like a number unlike others that might feel is a huge deal.
“It’s like any other birthday, I’m just happy to be here,” she said. “I really don’t think about it. Everybody else does but I never have. I’m looking forward to going back to work.”
Eden seems never to be slowing down and has proven that age isn’t a barrier to her everyday activities.
She told Hollywood, reporter, I was working up until the shutdown point last March.” Only the lockdown was able to keep her down.
She maintained all the health precautions, but in the end, tested positive to COVID 19, but thankfully it was mild and received antibody infusions.
“It was the lightest case of COVID I think anyone’s ever had she told Closer Week
She told Closer Weekly, “I think the secret to feeling great is to keep active, do things that you love and have a good sense of humor.”
Eden is back to work and has authored a children’s book called Barbara and the Djinn.
On her Facebook page, she wrote, “The story follows a little girl on a journey of finding these beings who are different, but who need help.”
It’s very simple, and it’s all about understanding people who are different and having empathy and love for them. We need more empathy, love, and understanding in this world, especially now.
She is also said to appear on a show with impressionists The Edwards Twins next February.
Eden told the Hollywood Reporter, “I’ll do a little singing and we’ll probably have interaction with the audience.”
“It’ll be fun. I’m really looking forward to it.”
Barbara Eden was born in 1931, in Tucson, Arizona, United States. She started her career studying voice at San Francisco’s Conservatory of Music.
As a teenager, she sang in local nightclubs and decided to study acting after a while.
Eden recalled to Closer Weekly, “My mother said, ‘Barbara, you don’t sound like you mean a word you’re singing. I think you should study acting, too.”
She later moved to LA and started appearing on shows in the 50s. Her first TV role was in the sitcom, How to Marry a Millionaire, but her breakthrough came after starring in I Dream of Jeannie.
Barbara was married three times her first marriage was to Michael Ansara and they had a son together.
“The same day that I Dream of Jeannie sold, the doctor told me I was pregnant,” Barbara said.
In 2001, Barbara buried her son Matthew Ansara. He battled drug abuse from an early age and died of a heroin overdose at the age of 35.
Barbara told Closer Weekly, “You can’t force them to go to rehab … you can’t do anything. And when he really wanted to be well and clear and clean, he had a heck of a time.”
“When Matthew was clean and sober, he was such a beautiful human being, inside and out. Drugs are inexplicable. It’s so frustrating.”
No parent should have to bury their child, our thoughts and prayers are with her. May his soul rest in Peace.
