Max Baer Jr. on co-star Buddy Ebsen’s last days alive

Max Baer Jr. is 84 years today and he’s doing exceptionally well as a golfer after retiring from acting.

Max was once married to Joanne hill but their marriage lasted for only 11 years, they had no kids together and up until now, they have no children together.

Max Baer Jr. was born to Max Baer and Mary Ellen Sullivan in Oakland, California on December 4, 1937.

In 1959, his father passed away and he took after his father who had a great interest in sports.

“Acting, though, is really only a hobby with me,” Baer told The Times in 1971. “Golf is my occupation.”

He participated in lots of tournaments while in California.

In 1949 he made his debut as an actor and was in a stage production of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. He went on to be part of The Beverly Hillbillies.

He had no talent in acting it was all a material of luck that he was able to hit such a big gig.

Baer told Medium, “When you play a role like Jethro, it’s for other people to judge because it’s pretty hard to be subjective or objective about yourself.”

“You just do the best you can with the material that you’re given, and then you try to add to it [with your performance] as much as you possibly can. But in the end, it’s the audience who has the final say. Well, we liked what you did’ or ‘We don’t like what you did.’ And you really don’t have any other way of evaluating it.

At the beginning of the show, Baer earned only $800 per episode but at the end of the show, he earned $4500 with other cast members.

Baer was doing exceptionally well and was able to win the hearts of many Americans.

“You have to perform well. And, in my case, if I have made the people laugh and even if they can laugh at my expense, it’s okay. I don’t care,” Baer said.

“They can laugh with me or at me. It doesn’t matter, just as long as they laugh. Because if I can make them laugh, then I believe that my performance was a successful one. I can’t evaluate it as to what degree of success it was. But I can say it did what it was supposed to do.”

Donna Douglas, 82 was also on The Beverly Hillbillies, but died in 2015, making Baer the only one among the cast that’s still alive.

Baer told The Courier-Journal in 2008, “I tiptoed in, Buddy was lying there with his eye shut and a catheter in him. I put my hand on his head, and he says, ‘Jethro.’ It was so sweet.”

It was a very special moment for the duo and that was the last moment Baer saw Ebdsen alive.
