A Divorced Mom Turned Her Wedding Ring Into A Meaningful Birthday Gift For Their Daughter
Recently, Karen Beardsley of Erie, Pennsylvania recently gave her 20 year old daughter, Devin Petit, a special gift for her 21st birthday, a necklace made from her old wedding ring. Devin loved the gift so much, she took to Twitter to share the amazing idea.
“My mom gave me this necklace this morning as an early birthday gift. It’s made from the diamonds of her wedding band. She said although her marriage to my dad didn’t work out, they both agreed I was the best thing to come from it, which is why she wanted me to have it.” Devin wrote on Twitter.
Karen was inspired to transform the ring into something meaningful and saw her daughter’s birthday as the perfect opportunity to do that. “I think it represents successful co-parenting over the years and the love that both her dad and I have for her,” Karen told Buzzfeed.
Since they parted ways over a decade ago, Devin’s parents have tried their best to maintain a friendly relationship and make their daughter feel supported.
“My parents always maintained an amicable relationship and were really conscious of me and how I felt and always put me first. Throughout my childhood they lived very close to each other and I spent near equal amount of time with both of them.” Devin told Buzzfeed.
Since sharing her mother’s sweet gift on Twitter, Devin’s post has gone viral with more than 273,000 likes. She’s also received tons of messages from her fellow children of divorced parents praising the idea.
“This is how a divorce should happen. This is how the child should be treated in the situation—love and support from both sides.” one commenter wrote.
Another added, “I’m in tears. Coming from divorced parents, this is the best thing I’ve ever seen: turning something horrible into something so beautiful.”
