After his wife dies during giving birth, a man becomes a single father to four children

The feelings we experience when we learn we will soon become parents are hard to put into words. The great majority of us are just thrilled to be expecting a kid, regardless of whether we are fathers or expectant women.

Our first thoughts are, of course, ones of hope. Maybe we picture the appearance of our child or the experiences or lessons we hope to impart to them. For the first time, many of us are curious about what it would be like to hold them in our arms. Unfortunately, though, not every pregnancy ends with the joy that most of us were raised to expect.

Phoenix, Arizona resident Carlos Morales is all too familiar with this terrible reality, and his story exemplifies how life is both bittersweet and beautiful. According to all accounts, Carlos and Erica Morales were a perfect match.

Although a language barrier made things challenging—Carlos didn’t speak English, and Erica didn’t speak Spanish—the couple started dating in 2006 after meeting at a nightclub in Scottsdale, Arizona. Despite this, they were clearly drawn to one another. Carlos and Erica reportedly spent a large portion of their first night dancing.

Carlos scrawled his number on a piece of paper and gave it to Erica to do with as she saw fit when the nightclub closed. That may have been the case when Erica finally misplaced the document containing Carlos’s number. However, it appears that fate had other ideas. After reuniting through mutual friends, the pair quickly came to understand that they were truly in love.

Carlos demonstrated his dedication by learning English so he could speak to Erica effectively. Meanwhile, Erica studied Spanish. Before attempting to start a family, the devoted couple married in a Las Vegas wedding in 2007. “Take a look at these advantages. Doctors informed Erica that she was expecting four babies instead of just one when she went for her first ultrasound!

Carlos and Erica prepared to become parents to quadruplets as the months went by. Erica rapidly became exhausted from having four kids, so Carlos tried his best to take care of her while also taking care of household duties like cleaning and cooking. Erica’s elevated blood pressure led to her hospital admission on January 12, 2015.

She texted Carlos before he could get there to tell him that doctors wanted to deliver the babies immediately since she was having so many contractions. Carlos and Erica took pictures and films when he got there so they would have something to look back on. Carlos reportedly kissed his wife on the head and said, “Let’s get these babies out,” before Erica entered the delivery room.

He had no idea that day would have a profound impact on his life. Carlos claims that a C-section was used to deliver his and Erica’s quadruplets, which include three girls and one boy. Carlos gave the quadruplets the names Carlos Jr., Paisley, and Tracey in remembrance of a previous discussion he had with his late wife. He gave the third young daughter the name “Erica.” On January 16, 2015, the distraught father was able to bring two of his kids home from the hospital. On March 11, the other two were permitted to return home.

Carlos was devastated by his love’s death and felt a great sense of loss, but he knew he had to be there for his kids. In order to learn how to clean his children, feed them when they were hungry, and control their sleep habits, the father of quadruplets attended baby care classes. He also acquired CPR skills.

Sondra Bridges, Erica’s mother, eventually moved in with Carlos to assist him in taking care of her grandkids.
