Ann-Margret loved her spouse, and she was devastated to learn of his cause of death
I adore Ann-Margret; she is a very kind, elegant, and kind person. She won hearts both on and off the screen with her fiery beauty and unquestionable brilliance. She was well-known for dating Elvis Presley and for being one of the few Hollywood stars who genuinely backed our troops in Vietnam. Even so, she feels that her greatest accomplishment is somewhere else, despite her legendary career and widespread acclaim.
Maybe because of my strong ties to Sweden, but Ann-Margret is my personal favourite. Her art speaks for itself and she is an amazing talent. Her real charm and excellent sense of humour never cease to enthral and inspire.
And unlike so many in Hollywood, her timeless beauty is genuine and unforced. According to The New York Times, the Swedish-American singer and actress published her debut rock album, Born to Be Wild, as recently as last year.
Ann-Margret has seen it all, and to say that is to say something other than truth. Born in northern Sweden, the legendary two-time Oscar nominee established her name with unforgettable performances in the 1960s hits Viva Las Vegas and Bye Bye Birdie. She had an amazing romance with Elvis Presley, which you can read about here, but in reality, he was never the love of her life.
When Ann-Margret’s husband Roger Smith was given the devastating neuromuscular disease myasthenia gravis in 1980, their marriage took a drastically different turn. Smith’s sickness frequently prevented him from even getting out of bed in the morning.
The illness had an impact on the couple’s personal and professional lives, making cross-country travel impossible. Smith, who was in charge of overseeing Ann-Margret’s career, was forced to take a backseat because of his health.
Smith’s disease began to improve by 1985, which gave Ann-Margret the opportunity to start her nightclub career again. Smith helped her resurrect her successful Las Vegas shows by offering her support as she made her way back into the spotlight. It appeared better for a time.
The couple made a last-ditch effort to become parents once Roger Smith’s ailments subsided. Prior to then, Ann-Margret had accepted her position as his three stepchildren’s stepmother with love.
Unfortunately, Ann-Margret’s biological clock was racing, and even after seeing a number of fertility specialists, they were unable to become pregnant. The actress has expressed that not being able to have children together, despite their best efforts, is one of her biggest life regrets.
Roger Smith and Ann-Margret were together until his passing in 2017. At Sherman Oaks Hospital in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, the cherished actor and manager passed away at the age of 84 due to complications associated with myasthenia gravis.
He had also battled Parkinson’s illness for a long time prior to his passing. Because of his health, Ann-Margret had to leave her job to take care of him. Throughout his protracted sickness, she gave her spouse her undivided attention.
I was taking care of him, so I kept saying no to everything. When two people are married and one of them has a broken wing, the other takes charge, the speaker stated. Naturally, Ann-Margret was devastated by her husband’s passing.
Nevertheless, she was able to look for the good and continue living her life. “When I reflect on my life, my marriage is what I am most proud of,” Ann-Margret stated to Closer Weekly. “Both of us wanted it to succeed. It was effective, too. We spent both day and night together. We were constantly there for one another and loved one other dearly.
