Beloved ‘Deadliest Catch’ Deckhand Nick Mavar Dies at 59

We are grieved by the death of Nick Mavar, a beloved deckhand from the hit TV show “Deadliest Catch”. Nick died on June 13 at the age of 59, leaving a legacy that will be remembered by both fans and colleagues. Nick Mavar spent an astonishing 16 years on the F/V Northwestern, gaining the title of Captain Sig Hansen’s right-hand man.

His passion and hard work on the show were clear, as he participated in an astonishing 98 episodes. Nick’s role on the boat made him a valuable member of the crew and a fan favorite.

Nick died in a boatyard in Naknek, Alaska, as a result of sad circumstances. Emergency personnel reacted to a 911 call reporting a medical emergency and immediately transferred Nick to Camai Medical Center. Despite their best attempts, medical personnel eventually proclaimed him dead.
