David Duchovny announces the death of loving rescue dog Brick and offers a touching poem in remembrance

Losing a dog, regardless of who you are, can be one of the most difficult experiences in life. Even well-known celebrities weep for their deceased pets. Recently, X-Files star David Duchovny bid farewell to his beloved rescue dog Brick—and composed a wonderful poem in honour.

Duchovny, 63, adopted his dog Brick in 2015, and the dog has become a fan favourite for the actor, with Brick even having his own Instagram profile.

Rescuer Philip Steir discovered Brick as a stray off a Los Angeles motorway in 2015, according to an Earth Animal report. While looking for a new home for the dog, he received a call from Duchovny, who stated, “He wanted him ASAP.”

The California celebrity called the canine Brick after former New York Jets offensive tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson. Brick moved from the streets to a house in Malibu with his celebrity owner. “He began a new jet-setting life, travelling with David to his lavish Manhattan penthouse, to David’s film sets David is on, and on his tour bus with The David Duchovny Band,” Philip Steir said in his book. “Quite the life and life change for such a beautiful boy and a sweetheart of a man.”

Sadly, after 9 years together, Duchovny reported that Brick had died. In a May 30 Instagram post, he said that he “put down my dog” this morning, beside a photo of himself cradling Brick. Duchovny also composed a moving poem that everyone who has bid goodbye to a dog would understand, expressing the idea that, while a dog’s life may be brief and seemingly trivial, it leaves a lasting impression on those who loved them.

Many fans and Hollywood colleagues sent their condolences, including Duchovny’s X-Files co-star Gillian Anderson. “Awww, Double D. I’m so sorry. He was your guy. Anderson remarked, “RIP Brick Duchovny.

Brick’s Instagram account also shared a farewell tribute, reflecting on the dog’s excellent life. “I’m saddened to say goodbye to all of my friends, but I’m grateful for the life I had. “My life was a beautiful journey,” the post says.

“One day I was living under the highway by myself, and the next day I met the best family and roommates who provided me with snacks, air conditioning, and a grassy field to play on. I also got to visit movie sets, concerts, and meet a lot of intriguing people. Above all, remember to look after one another, the environment, and yourself.

David Duchovny has always been a pet advocate. In 2011, he spoke on behalf of 600 Million, an organisation working on edible birth control for cats and dogs to fight the pet overpopulation crisis. He also collaborated with Brick to promote the “lick my face” challenge, in which consumers donated $1 to the non-profit Target Zero for each lick their cat gave them.

Duchovny has been a dog owner for a long time; he used to bring his dog, Blue, to the set of The X-Files.

Rest in peace, Brick Duchovny! You’ve come a long way from the streets to a Hollywood home. We know David will miss you much.
