Due to a fatal illness, a little girl who appeared to be eight months pregnant was spared by her father’s kidney donation

The greatest desire of any parent is for their kids to grow up healthy and happy.

The jubilation of Karen Rodas and Paul Bybkin, who had just brought their son Nathaniel into the world, was short-lived—the infant barely lived for 36 hours. He was born with polycistic kidney disease (PKD), a disorder that damages the kidneys and leads to the growth of cysts. Sadly, this often leads to renal failure, and that’s exactly what happened to infant Nathaniel.

The couple was fortunate to have Maddy as a daughter in 2013. Regretfully, the greatest worry of these parents came true. Maddy’s parents were devastated when they learnt that she was born with the same illness as their late brother. The girl’s stomach resembled that of a lady nine months pregnant due to its extreme swelling.

Sweet Maddy would spend her days sleeping for up to eighteen hours a day and would spend the most of her life in and out of hospitals prior to her life-saving surgery.

The family was told by the doctors that finding a suitable donor was essential to Maddy’s chances of growing up normally. As fate would have it, dad fit the bill!

“My nerves were a wreck with Paul and Maddy, two of my most precious souls, going under the knife,” Karen reportedly admitted to The Mirror. The procedure went really well, and Paul and Maddy both made full recoveries.

“Our little girl has been saved by Daddy’s kidney,” Karen continued. She is so full of energy now. Now that she is two years old, her enormous tummy merely appears slightly rounder, and she is in good health. Paul, on the other hand, feels that all he done for his child was what any parent would do.

Paul Rybkin, Karen Rodas and their three children since the transplant.

“We’ve experienced a lot, but any father would have done what I did and given Maddy a kidney.” He remarked, “It’s just part of being a parent,” as reported by The Mirror. “We can now watch Maddy grow up to be a happy and healthy little girl because we are on a high.”

In twenty-five years, she’ll most likely require another transplant procedure, but in the meanwhile, she has plenty of time to appreciate and fully live her life.
