Here’s how Tom Hank is coping with his Silent Condition
Tom Hank, 66, was born in Concord, California. His Childhood was nothing normal as his parents went their separate ways and were forced to move around a lot. He also had no one taking care of him as he was growing up.
Tom told Graham Bensinger in an interview, “Maybe there was a degree of loneliness because no one — I kind of like fell through the cracks and didn’t have adults per se that was taking care of me.”
He was also surrounded by step-siblings as his parents had many partners and remarried three to four times. At some points, Tom couldn’t keep track of them.
Tom told Chicago Tribune in 1984, “When our parents divorced, we three older kids went with our mother, our younger brother went with our dad. Later we were herded back and forth. I can remember times of living together – all four of us in one bedroom at one point: in a big, spread-out house at another. Other times, we didn’t see each other for years.”
Tom became interested in acting after seeing a school play in high school. Earlier he didn’t know he could earn a living from acting.
Tom landed his first movie role in He Knows You’re Alone in 1979 after moving to New York. He got his breakthrough after appearing in Splash, a movie directed by Ron Howard.
In 1978, the 24-year-old actor welcomed a son with American actress Samantha Lewes and they had their daughter, Elizabeth in 1982. Sadly, they parted ways after 9 years of marriage and it was a hard moment for Tom as he had parents who were divorced and he felt that he has failed his kids. He had to undergo therapy twice and was kept under close observation to help him get over his thoughts.
Tom found love again and soon got married to actress and singer Rita Wilson.
“We got married, we committed to each other, we love each other and we work hard at our relationship… Not only do we love each other, we like each other, and we like being together, we support each other and we keep the communication channels open. That’s always important,” Hanks revealed in a Podcast.
In 2015, Rita was diagnosed with Cancer, but she beat it as it was still in its early stages unlike Hank’s first wife Samantha Lewes. She died at the age of 50. May her soul rest in Peace.
A rare illness soon caught up with Tom and it slowed down his productivity in the industry. He experienced symptoms of the disease in the early 90s, but he had no idea what it was.
In 2013, the doctors finally knew what it was and Tom went on to reveal that he had type 2 diabetes also called the silent killer as it has no symptoms at first.
”I went to the doctor, and he said, ‘You know those high blood sugar numbers you’ve been dealing with since you were 36? Well, you’ve graduated! You’ve got type 2 diabetes, young man,’” Hanks recalled.
He knew he had to change his diet and live healthier. He took his advice shed those pounds and aging so well.
”I try to get, every single day, one hour of activity. That can be anything from a treadmill or a walk or a hike with a dog, but it has to be one hour every single day,” he told the podcast ‘Sooo Many White Guys.
I believe he’s going to manage his condition properly and do all that it takes to stay healthy.
