In a controversial move, Donald Trump suggests a new name for Veterans Day

To honor military accomplishments, Donald Trump wants to rename Veterans Day. It’s time for Americans to start celebrating their wins again, according to the US President, who suggested changing Veterans Day to “Victory Day for World War I.” Additionally, he proposed changing the name of May 8th’s Victory in Europe Day to “Victory in World War II Day.”

Trump maintained that the United States should be proud of its military accomplishments because it contributed more to the victory of World War II than any other nation.

“Many of our friends and allies are celebrating May 8th as Victory Day, but we did more than any other country, by far, in producing a victorious result on World War II,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform. This is to rename November 11th as World War I Victory Day and May 8th as World War II Victory Day.

We won both wars, and no one was as strong, courageous, or brilliant militarily as we were, yet we never celebrate anything because we no longer have leaders who know how to do it! We will once more begin to celebrate our successes!

In the 1950s, Veterans Day—originally known as Armistice Day—was extended to commemorate all American veterans. Veterans from all wars are honored on this federal holiday, which was established in 1968.

Many have questioned the necessity of changing a holiday that celebrates all service veterans, which has led to criticism of the proposal to rename Veterans Day.

Additionally, Trump’s remarks on World War II might draw criticism from other countries, especially Russia, which remembers the Soviet Union’s devastating defeats in the conflict.
