Jere Burns today, in 2022

Jere Burns was born in 1954 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. 

He initially had no interest in acting and was fully involved in athletics. His interest changed after he got into a private high school in Cambridge.

Jere said when interviewed on Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show, ”We had this great little drama program. And I loved it. I loved the attention; I loved the response, I loved the girls, I loved the whole thing. But I had been an athlete too, so there was a little conflict there.”

He didn’t see himself making a living in drama nor did he have role models or mentors he could look up to in that niche. So after high school, he went on to study English at the University of Massachusetts.

He recalled, ”From Boston, Massachusetts, you know – everybody is a doctor or a lawyer, a businessman or whatever. I didn’t know anyone that ever went in to show business.”

He didn’t give up after all and in 1970 he appeared on one episode of the psychiatrist, a drama series that aired on NBC.

Jere got his breakthrough after starring in the show that aired on NBC from 1988 to 1992, DearJohn.

He played the role of sleazy Kirk Morris on the sitcom. He was a ladies’ man in the show and what people could presently term a jerk.

Jere told The Daily News Leader in 1990, “I don’t see Kirk as a loser; I don’t see Kirk as a boor; I don’t see Kirk as obnoxious. I approach Kirk as a vulnerable person because everything that he says and does is sort of the opposite of that.”

Jere soon became a household name and was getting a lot of attention which he didn’t mind.

Jere explained in 1990, “People say, ‘Is it a pain in the neck that people recognize you in the streets?’ No, it’s flattering. It’s gratifying. That’s not why I do what I do, but it’s a nice byproduct. Trying to affect people, trying to make a difference in some way – touch people. It seems a little cliched to say that when you’re in a half-hour sitcom and playing a guy as I play, but that’s the way I view it.”

After the show was canceled, Jere went on to appear in other TV productions and movies and amassed great wealth too.

According to Celebrity Networth, he’s estimated to be worth approximately $5 million.

Today, Jere has chosen to live a private life and keep a very low profile even though he grants interviews at times.

He hasn’t been very active on social media as of 2022 and the Last time he posted was in 2016. We hope he’s doing great.
