Little House on the Prairie” actor Melissa Sue Anderson discusses her choice to move from Hollywood to Canada

How often do you remember an old show you loved watching and wonder how the actors are doing so long after the show has ended? Many of you who watched “Little House on the Prairie” and were excited to follow the family’s every move on their farm in Plum Creek, which is close to Walnut Grove, Minnesota, probably would like to know what the performers are doing these days.

The gorgeous Melissa Sue Anderson, who played Mary Ingalls, was adored by her fans, who thought she would stay in their lives through television, but she had other ideas.

She talks about her desire to relocate to Canada and leave Hollywood behind today. Playing supporting parts in her early acting career, this actress broke through into the entertainment industry as a key character on “Little House on the Prairie.” Her admirers understood she deserved the multiple nominations she received for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series because of her performance.

In 2010, Anderson addressed Pop Entertainment about her experience filming the drama that catapulted her to fame, saying, “I’m lucky that there was even a character to play, because there isn’t much of one in the book.” When Laura [Ingalls] penned the Little House novels, which served as the inspiration for the television show and the main plot point, she was a much older woman.

She was reminiscing about her finest moments. Not much was determined by the personalities of Ma and Mary. While Mary wasn’t present as much, there was a lot of Laura, Pa, Jack the dog, and Mr. Edwards. It’s a blessing that they realised I could act.

Following Mary Ingalls, she attempted a number of small jobs before marrying television producer Michael Sloan in 1990. The couple moved to Montreal in 2002 with their two kids, Griffin and Piper, and daughter Piper.

Anderson made the decision to give up show business in 2007 after the family became citizens of Canada. She wanted to spend more time with her children and didn’t want them to feel compelled to pursue performing professions as well.

Anderson stated, “I really stepped away for a long time,” in an interview with E-Talk. That was primarily for the kids, so instead of hanging out with me, they would have their own sense of identity.

Anderson did not entirely give up acting, either; in recent years, he has taken on a few modest jobs. She was inspired to write a memoir titled The Way I See It: A Look Back at My Life on Little House by her transformative experience as a cast member of television shows like “Little House on the Prairie.”
