Opinion: Olena Zelenska’s courage shows the world what truly counts

Olena Zelenska is in the midst of a conflict. She and her spouse, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stayed steadfast when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. But, while Olena is the First Lady and is dedicated to doing everything she can to assist her fellow citizens throughout the conflict, she is also a mother.

Aside from encouraging children’s education and advocating for the release of stolen Ukrainian children, she is doing everything she can to provide her children with a normal life. If you ask me, the Ukrainian First Lady is nothing short of a hero, and it’s time to recognise her as an inspirational citizen and mother.

Olena Zelenska & Volodymyr Zelenskyy have had a lengthy marriage. When the latter took office in 2019, the pair could not have predicted the dreadful predicament their country would find itself in only a few years. After two months of hiding at the start of the conflict, she returned to her husband’s side when it became evident that Russia’s invasion would be lengthy.

While Olena has understandably prioritised the safety of her two daughters, Oleksandra and Kyrylo, she and her husband have demonstrated great perseverance and patriotism. The First Lady never considered fleeing fully, and it rapidly became clear that she would not be intimidated by Putin and his Russian troops. 

Today, it is reasonable to say that she has become an outstanding role model for women all around the world, demonstrating enormous courage and character in the process. 
For starters, Olena has provided a brilliant example of how to respond in times of disaster, for both her children and the Ukrainian people. She has maintained her composure and serenity, and while the theme of war is understandably complex, the First Lady of Ukraine’s emotional fortitude when speaking in public is captivating.

Oleksandra and Kyrylo are fortunate to have Olena as their mother, and not just because of how she has managed the previous several years.  It is worth noting that the First Lady of Ukraine has always attempted to prioritise children, since she is committed to enhancing Ukraine’s educational system and assisting the future generation to prosper.

Keeping your emotions hidden during warfare must be extremely difficult, and it’s unlikely that individuals who haven’t been in the same circumstances can truly understand.  Despite her busy schedule, Olena Zelenska has showed her sensitive side.

She continues to assist families and children devastated by the atrocities of war, while also advocating for humanitarian initiatives and reducing the stigma associated with mental health.  In summary, she sets a good example, and it has become evident over time that neither Olena nor her husband are willing to give up in the face of overwhelming difficulties.

They deserve to enjoy a life free of war and violence, and to see their children strive for the heavens and pursue their ambitions.  Whatever the case may be, Olena deserves to be quite proud of herself.  If I had my opinion, ‘Hero’ would be a more appropriate title than ‘First Lady’.
