Two-time Oscar winner Glenda Jackson passed away peacefully on June 15 at the age of 87

Over the past seven decades, Glenda Jackson was one of the most adored actors in the world. The entertainment business is mourning. Her agent, Lionel Larner, released a statement on June 15 to confirm her passing. Condolences for the venerable actress have kept coming in the days thereafter.

In a statement, he stated that 87-year-old politician and two-time Academy Award winner Glenda Jackson passed away peacefully this morning at her home in London following a brief illness. “I lost a 50-year best friend today, and we lost one of the greatest actresses in the world today.”

Jackson carried on acting till the day of her passing. She recently wrapped up filming on a new movie, The Great Escaper, with co-star Michael Caine, according to her representative. She has several honours, accolades, and credits in the fields of radio, theatre, television, and film.

Michael Caine acknowledged to her as “one of our best cinema actors” after her passing. Continuing, he said that working with Glenda Jackson was a “privilege,” mentioning that this was their second film together. He said, “It was just as wonderful this time as it was fifty years ago.”

Among her most popular productions were Women in Love (1970), Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971), A Touch of Class (1973), Mary, Queen of Scots (1971), Hedda (1975), The Incredible Sarah (1976), and Hopscotch (1980). She took a 23-year sabbatical from performing between 1991 and 2015 to focus on a political career.

One of her most noteworthy accomplishments was winning the “Triple Crown of Acting,” which entails winning an Academy Award, an Emmy Award, and a Tony Award, making her one of the select few actors and actresses to do so. With one Tony, two Oscars, and three Emmys by the end of her career.
