Val Kilmer’s daughter discloses the cause of death in his final Instagram post
After dealing with a number of health problems over the previous ten years, the 65-year-old actor passed away yesterday, April 1. Mercedes, Kilmer’s daughter, told the New York Times that pneumonia was the reason of Kilmer’s death.
Readers may recall that in 2014, the Batman Forever and Top Gun star received a throat cancer diagnosis. Kilmer’s voice cords were permanently damaged as a result of a tracheotomy and chemotherapy he had as part of his medical treatment.

The actor, who first appeared on television in Top Secret in 1984, talked about his disease and recovery in both the Amazon Prime documentary Val and his 2020 memoir, I’m Your Huckleberry.
Throughout the documentary, Kilmer clarified, “I obviously sound much worse than I feel.” “I have to plug this hole (in his throat) before I can talk.” You must decide whether to eat or to breathe. “It’s a barrier that is very evident to anyone who sees me.”
Kilmer played the legendary Iceman again in Top Gun: Maverick, which was out in 2022, and it was his last film credit. Following the rigors of his cancer struggle, Val Kilmer moved aside from acting to devote his energy towards painting.
The actor frequently displayed pieces on his Instagram page, which may have been the best place to see this change. His final Instagram post, in fact, featured a picture of one of his paintings with the words, “It has that late-night glow.” Cool tones with a low burn, like when the camp fire cools down but you’re still fully awake.”
On February 23, the final post that included Kilmer himself was released. The Willow actor, wearing a Batman mask, said, “It’s been a while,” while posing with Walking Dead star and fellow artist David Choe.
Following the heartbreaking news of the late star’s death, tributes to him have proliferated online. On social media, actor Josh Brolin posted: “You were a brilliant, fearless, daring, extremely inventive fireball. Those are becoming scarce. When I finally reach the sky, I hope to meet you there.
Till then, wonderful thoughts and recollections. Meanwhile, Josh Gad posted: “Rest in peace, Val Kilmer. I appreciate you categorizing so many of my favorite childhood films. You were a real icon. Peace be with you, Val Kilmer!
