After being abandoned by his father, Dean Cain vows to be a better dad

Cain was born Dean George Tanaka on July 31, 1966, in Michigan to Sharon Tanaka and Roger Tanaka. His father kept them at a young age and his mother got married to director Christopher Cain, who legally adopted both Dean Cain and his brother. He changed his name to that of his adopted father.

When asked about his biological father he said, “My biological father is Japanese. I never knew him, never met him.”

There is news that Roger Tanaka remarried and had another family, and never contacted his previous family again.

In June 2000, Cain welcomed a son with his ex-girlfriend, Samantha Torres who was formerly a model and Playboy Playmate. He named his son after his adoptive father. Things got sour between Cain and his ex-girlfriend Samantha and they had to fight for the custody of their son.

Cain wasn’t ready to give up and in 2011 he finally won. He loves his son and was willing to go any length just to have him.

In an interview, he said, “I cook every meal for my child. If I don’t cook, he doesn’t eat. I cook a very mean steak. I’m also very good at taking the nine leftovers I have and turning them into something.”

Being a single parent is not easy, but Cain was in for everything. He put his son’s needs above everything and had to juggle between working as a writer, producer, director, talk show host, and political analyst with his parenting duties.

In an interview, the actor once said,  “I’m there. I’m a very present father, and I would never do it otherwise. I’m blessed to be able to have the ability to do so many different things and yet still be a father first.”

He turned down a lot of lead roles to be there for his child and only started taking them when Christopher turned 18.

Their relationship turned so great and they were always seen together, going on trips and having fun.

His half-siblings from his mother often coke around once in a while to spend some time with their big brother.

Cain said, “I’d do anything for those two. It can be defined as a broken home, but if you hang out at our house, that’s the last thing you’ll think.”

Cain enjoys his son’s presence and company and they have a strong bond. We wish them the best.
