Angela Lansbury’s life narrative and impressive wealth are revealed in this look at her passing
A true legend of old Hollywood’s Golden Age has passed away.
On October 11, 2022, Angela Lansbury, an actress with a long career and a Tony Award nomination, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles.
Millions of people are mourning the actress, who was once the richest woman in television history, and she is leaving a legacy that will endure for a very long time.
Lansbury spent her whole life performing on stage and in front of the camera, collecting Tony Awards, Academy Award nominations, and two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Long into her 90s, Lansbury continued her acting career that spanned eight decades in both movies and television. But regrettably, she passed away yesterday, five days before she would have turned 97.
British-born Angela Lansbury first developed an interest in acting when she was a young child, but it was a terrible event that ultimately inspired her to consider a career in the industry.
When Angela, known to her family as Brigid, was just nine years old, her father went unexpectedly, leaving her in a state of despair.
But she found that using her acting skills helped her get through everything. The sad death of her father, she subsequently admitted, was “the defining moment of my life.”
Angela said she always wanted people to recognise her as a little girl. She was therefore acting pretty much all the time, even if she wasn’t aware of it.
When I was around 11 or 12, I recall sitting in buses and making an effort to look intriguing. Alternately, I would draw attention by saying something somewhat absurd that merely suggested that I was knowledgeable about something they weren’t.
“I was adopting the mental and emotional characteristics of someone other than Brigid. I therefore spent a large portion of my life behaving without even being aware of it.
Angela later pursued acting studies at the Feagin School of Dramatic Art in New York and participated in a number of school plays. But her family relocated to Los Angeles in just two years.
There, she had to contribute to the family’s support. Angela’s job as a gift wrapper at a department shop required her to mature quickly.
Of course, wrapping presents wasn’t her ideal occupation.
She continued to pursue a career in show business, and in 1944, she co-starred with Ingrid Bergman in Gaslight, where she played Nancy, the housemaid. On set, she had her 18th birthday party.
“Working with the lovely Ingrid [Bergman] was an exciting experience. It resembled a fantasy world, she remembered.
I remember being so little and being in awe of what I had to do. And you damn well give it your all when you’re tested like that.
