MacGyver, the action-adventure series was one of the most memorable shows in the 80s.

It all revolved around a secret agent who always got out of the most difficult and taunting situations using whatever he had in his hand.

The show was great and thanks to the agent who made it worthwhile, Richard Dean Anderson.

MacGyver never let people’s consciousness and each time it’s remembered people often wondered what happened to Richard Dean Anderson and how he’s doing so far.

Anderson will always be linked to MacGyver, but outside that, he has managed to build a successful career and life altogether.

Anderson got his last name from his Finland-Swedish paternal grandfather, he grew up in Roseville, Minnesota.

While growing up Anderson wanted to be a hockey professional, but after breaking one of his arms his profession ended.

”I broke two arms as a 15-year-old, one of which put me in hospital for two months,” Anderson told Stuff.

During those moments, he realized he loved art and music as well as acting and decided that was what he’s going to venture into.

Anderson before the fame had a regular role on the soap opera General Hospital and starred on the one-season TV series Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. He was starred in an episode of The Facts of Life. All this where his life before his breakthrough came in 1985.

”When we started in 1985, television was ready for a character that wasn’t a detective with a gun. I think we garnered a lot of attention from families, primarily because it was the kind of show that families could share,” Anderson said.

He was on the series from 1985 to 1992, that’s a total of seven seasons alongside two TV movies in 1994.

Richardson in MacGyver was very crafty and could construct anything from the scratch opposite of his life in real life.

”[Richard’s] not like that at all,” Anderson’s producing partner Michael Greenburg told Entertainment Weekly in 1992. ”He can’t program a VCR or dial a phone.”

Richard got his fame through the show, but I think he wasn’t ready for the consequences either, he was worn out by it. ”I was kind of fried,” Anderson said. ”MacGyver was seven years of being in virtually every frame that was shot and having absolutely no life at all.”

Richardson has a daughter born in 1998 and had to leave acting for a while to spend some time with her. “Being a father, well, I don’t know if this is a change,” Anderson was quoted as saying, “but it makes me want to get out of here faster.

Get off the clock. Just because the baby is my reason for living, my reason for coming to work.”

Anderson is 70 years today and he’s still strong than ever. ”I really live a private, reclusive life. The house that I’ve built for myself here in Malibu is the perfect house for me.

I have my dogs, but I don’t get to meet people. I don’t like the bar scene and I’m not a party guy – I’ve had my fill of that from the early days,” Anderson told Stuff. NZ.
