Calvin Klein was born in Bronx, New York to a Jewish family in 1942.

They left for New York after world war II broke out.

Calvin’s grandmother seems to be a major influence in his life. He often spent long hours watching the seamstress work with fabrics and clothes and this helped him develop his love for sowing. He fell in love with fashion at the age of 5.

Calvin told Huffington Post, “I grew up in an environment that was very baroque, and always loved simplicity and purity. Everything had to be pure, minimal and strong.”

Calvin rarely grant interviews, but in 2017 he talked about his childhood in the Bronx with Huffington Post.

Calvin attended the High School of Art and Design in Manhattan as he wanted to pursue his passion.

Speaking to Cherwell, he said, ”I never thought when I started – when I was in school – that I would be running a global company. I was thrilled if I had a job.”

After graduating from a fashion school in New York, he worked at several New York shops, which he eventually quit along the way. He was fed up with their designs.

He explained, ”One day I saw a woman walking down the street in the yellow suit with the yellow fox collar and cuffs, a yellow hat, a yellow handbag and yellow shoes – and I quit.
I was so sick to think that I had been part of making that outfit possible.”

He went on to start his brand and became a dominant personality in the fashion industry. In 1977 he already had $30 Million to his name, all thanks go to his company.

Speaking about his marriage, not much is known about his love life, but he has been married twice.

He wedded his Bronx sweetheart and textile designer Jayne Center in 1964. They split ways after 10 years.

They both have a daughter Marci Klein who is also making waves in the entertainment industry.

Calvin once found love again and got married to Kelly Rector. Kelly was his assistant and their marriage had a lot of speculations surrounding it, but all that mattered was that they loved each other.

They parted ways after nine years together in 2006.

Calvin Klein revealed to Forbes in 2011 that he has a boyfriend, Nick Gruber. ”I met someone and fell in love.”

They dated for two years before going their separate ways in 2012.
