A 12-year-old girl defies a carjacker and saves her younger sister

According to Global Missing Kids, over 460,000 children are reported missing in the United States each year. That is a statistic we can never accept, and the fact that so many children are without their parents or loved ones saddens me greatly.

Fortunately, this would-be kidnapper was apprehended before his terrible plans could be carried out. And the manner in which he was apprehended is still generating headlines throughout the world…

Over the years, we’ve seen a number of children who have shown courage. Just because you’re a child doesn’t mean you can’t fight for what you believe in, be brave, or save lives.

On an April morning in 2017, the Weiler family’s horror began.

Brandie Weiler, a Virginia mother of two, was taking her kids to Busch Gardens, a seasonal amusement park in Williamsburg, when they came upon a traffic accident on the interstate.

Brandie came to a complete halt to see if anyone needed assistance. Maddie and Mollie stayed in the family van while her mother checked on her and dialled 911.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, a man approached the van on foot. The car accident was allegedly caused by the same man, who had no good intentions.

He attempted to enter the vehicle, but Brandie’s 12-year-old daughter, Maddie, was lightning fast and closed the door. That, however, was ineffective.

“I’m on the phone with dispatch, yelling, ‘Somebody help me, this guy is in this car with my kids,'” she says. “Maddie locked the door, but he pushed his hand through the window and unlocked the door,” Weiler told ABC.

The man yelled things like “I need to get to this place” and “Let’s go,” but Maddie opted to fight back and stood her ground. Molly, who was seven years old at the time, was terrified and cried, but her older sister, who was twelve years old at the time, reacted instinctively. Maddie was adamant about not letting the man drive the van.

Maddie shifted into drive right away, preventing the offender from starting the van and driving away. Mollie then began punching and kicking the man with everything she had. Her younger sister managed to flee during the chaos.

“I wasn’t really terrified because I was so fired up on adrenaline,” Maddie explained.

“I knew exactly what I had to do. I considered dragging Mollie out and thrashing this guy so he couldn’t start the car – everything I could think of to save Mollie. If he had taken both of us or Mollie, I would have made it my top priority to get her out. I would have been devastated.

It was impossible for the man to start the automobile when Maddie began beating and biting him. Meanwhile, she screamed at the top of her lungs to attract attention to the car. The cops arrived quickly, and thanks to Maddie, the criminal stayed on the spot.

“You just go when you’re in that scenario.” Most people would probably freeze, but I wasn’t about to abandon my sister,” Maddie told People.
