A Bit of Tension Between Kate Middleton and Melania Trump During Their UK Visit?

So, Donald and Melania Trump just wrapped up their three-day state visit to the UK and headed back home to the US. It was a big deal—they met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Melania got to play the First Lady role alongside Kate Middleton. From the outside, it looked like the two ladies were getting along great, but according to a body language expert, there might have been a subtle awkward vibe at one point.

The Trumps touched down in the UK late on Tuesday for what was actually Donald’s second state visit—pretty rare, since no other president’s been invited twice.

His first one was back when Queen Elizabeth was still around. This time, everything was super fancy with tons of security, and Prince William and Kate welcomed them at Windsor. After a lavish state banquet on Wednesday night, Thursday was all about Melania and Kate hanging out.

The pair checked out Queen Mary’s Dolls House and the Royal Library at Windsor Castle, then headed over to Frogmore Gardens. There, they joined some adorable 4- to 6-year-olds from the Scouts’ Squirrels program for arts and crafts. Melania got right in there, pressing inked leaves onto paper and drawing with the kids. She even said, “This is beautiful!” when she saw their work.

Kate was chilling on the grass, chatting with the little ones about their creations. One kid grabbed Melania’s hand to show off these “bug hotels” they’d made from cardboard. Melania was all in, asking, “Show me how, what I should do?” and sharing that her favorite bug is a ladybug. Both women brought treats for the kids too—Kate packed lunches with sandwiches using honey from their family spot at Anmer Hall, and Melania brought some from the White House beehives.

It seemed like Melania was having a blast. Royal watcher Victoria Arbiter noted that teaming up with Kate added some real depth to Melania’s schedule, beyond just the fashion talk. “People always focus on what these high-profile women wear,” Arbiter said on Today Extra, according to People. “And yeah, both have been great at supporting designers from their home countries, but the White House wanted to give Melania’s itinerary more meat.”

Arbiter added that Melania seemed a tad hesitant at first, but kids have this magical way of breaking the ice—no matter if you’re the First Lady. They were climbing on her lap, drawing together, firing off questions, and she was clearly into it.

Now, are Kate and Melania BFFs? Who knows—time will tell. King Charles and Donald apparently swap letters like old pals, so maybe something similar could happen here.

But rewind to when the Trumps first arrived: William and Kate were chatting with them as King Charles and Queen Camilla joined in. Body language guru and psychic Inbaal Honigman spotted what she called a “tense” moment in a photo of the ladies—Melania from the back, talking to Kate with Camilla in the middle.

“The most relaxed one there is Queen Camilla; her feet are apart, like she’s totally at ease claiming her space,” Honigman told Unilad. “Kate and Melania have their feet close together, which can signal a bit of discomfort.”

She went on: “Their faces all look calm with those neutral smiles, but check the hands. Kate’s holding hers in front, kinda protective. Melania’s got hers clenched into a fist—that’s a sign she might’ve felt out of place, like a fish out of water in that chat.”
