A Heartbreaking Journey: Axyl’s Fight Against Cancer

In a deeply emotional turn of events, six-year-old Axyl is facing an unimaginable battle with untreatable cancer. Just recently, his family learned that the aggressive illness has spread from his brain throughout his tiny body in a matter of weeks, leaving them with heartbreaking news: Axyl has only a few weeks to a few months left to live.

On July 21, his mother, Augusta Womack, shared their story through a GoFundMe campaign. She expressed the complex emotions of watching her vibrant little boy endure such pain. “No kid should ever have to go through this,” she wrote. “There is nothing else they can do for our baby but make him comfortable at this point.”

As they transition to hospice care, Axyl will return home to be surrounded by his loving family. Augusta shared that although he’s in significant pain, they are focused on making him as comfortable as possible.

To honor Axyl’s spirit, a prayer vigil is set to take place at Monticello Baptist Church in Georgia on the evening of July 21. Friends and community members are invited to come together in support of Axyl and his family during this heart-wrenching time. Kaitlyn Ross, a local reporter, described Axyl as a lively little boy, full of energy, with a “sparkle in his eyes” and an “unforgettable dimpled smile.”

Amid the overwhelming sadness, Augusta expressed her gratitude to those who have shown support and kindness. “We see you all and we hear you all. Just know we are all just so broken-hearted about this,” she wrote.

She fondly recalled how Axyl continues to be his silly, playful self, even in the face of such dire circumstances. “If you ever got to meet our Axyl, you would know what a cool little dude he is,” she reflected. “He’ll be greatly missed. He’s only 6 and should never have to deal with something like this. I’m sure going to miss his pretty eyes and dimpled smile.”

As the community gathers to support Axyl’s family, we are reminded of the profound impact a young life can have on everyone around him. Augusta encouraged everyone to wrap their arms around her family and remember their sweet boy, Axyl, as they navigate through this painful journey together.
