Bonnie Tyler Placed in Induced Coma After Emergency Surgery in Portugal

Bonnie Tyler has been placed in an induced coma to help with her recovery following emergency surgery. The news comes as an update from her team after the 74 year old singer went through a tough procedure in Portugal.

Fans have been sending well wishes since the initial report broke that she needed urgent intestinal surgery. Her manager shared that things are stable but she is now in a medically induced coma on doctors orders to support healing.

The Total Eclipse of the Heart star was in Faro when she had the operation on May 6. At first her representatives said the surgery went well and she was resting comfortably. The next day though her manager Matt Davis gave a new statement explaining the coma decision. He asked everyone to respect the familys privacy during this challenging period and promised more updates when possible.

This is a real blow for her schedule. Bonnie had more than two dozen shows lined up across Europe running into 2026 with the first ones set for late May in Malta and Germany. Those will obviously need to be postponed while she focuses on getting better.

Over her long career the Welsh performer has put out 18 studio albums and become known for classic hits from the seventies like Lost in France and Its a Heartache. She hit even bigger in the eighties with Faster Than the Speed of Night and unforgettable tracks such as Holding Out for a Hero. Yet nothing quite matches the staying power of Total Eclipse of the Heart which still gets her excited every time it plays on the radio.

Her most recent album came out in 2021 called The Best Is Yet to Come showing she has kept creating music right up to now. Everyone who loves her powerful voice is hoping for a full and speedy recovery so she can get back to what she does best.
