Elderly Texas Couple Married 62 Years Passes Away While Holding Hands

Do you believe in love and the idea of soulmates? This story of a Texas couple that passed away while holding hands is about to melt your heart and make you a believer.

The couple, Tom and Delma Ledbetter’s, first met in their early 20s through mutual friends Click2Houston reports. For their first date, the pair simply drove around a couple of blocks and went back home.

 “They drove around two, three different blocks or whatever and they came back and they parked and he said he reached over and he grabbed her hand and he said, ‘I don’t know what made me do it.’ He said, ‘I just reached over and gave her a kiss on the cheek.’” Donetta Nichols, one of the couple’s children, revealed.

Tom and Delma got married only 3 weeks after their first date! They had two daughters, years later they were blessed with seven grandchildren and then their seven great grandchildren.

The couple remained by each other’s sides for more than 62 years. They loved each other just like they had in the beginning.

After retirement, the couple were able to travel the world and enjoy each other’s company even more. Sadly, Delma’s health began to fail in April of 2017.

Delma had to be admitted to a nursing home. A few days after her admission into the hospital, Tom fell ill too and he was taken to the same nursing home as his wife.

Donetta Nichols said, “We got him over to the nursing home with Mama. They had pushed their little beds together and Mama was laying right there, facing him. She was asleep and Daddy goes and he reached over there and he grabbed ahold of her hand and he just laid there with her, and it was so sweet,” 

The amazing couple passed away, holding hands, just an hour and a half apart. Nichols said, “It was exactly how they wanted to go. It couldn’t have been any better.”

Stephanie, the couple’s granddaughter, took a photo of Tom and Delma during their final hours together.

That sweet picture quickly spread across the internet and touched the hearts of millions across the world.

Tom and Delma were laid to rest side by side at Restwood Memorial Park in Clute, Texas.

It is sad the couple passed away, but we can take comfort in knowing they had an incredible life together and were so fortunate to find a love so rare! May they rest in peace.
