Epstein Files Link to Madeleine McCann? 2009 Witness Saw Girl Covering Eye With Maxwell Lookalike
The recent unsealing of more Jeffrey Epstein-related documents has stirred up old mysteries once again, and one name that unexpectedly popped up is Madeleine McCann, the little British girl who vanished without a trace back in 2007. It’s a heartbreaking case that still haunts so many people, and this new mention—buried in thousands of pages—has people talking about possible links to Ghislaine Maxwell.
Madeleine was only three years old when she disappeared on May 3, 2007, during a family vacation at the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz, Portugal. Her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, had left her and her younger twin siblings asleep in their apartment while they dined with friends at a nearby tapas restaurant, checking on them regularly. But when Kate went back around 10 p.m., Madeleine was gone. The alarm was raised right away, and what followed was one of the most intense missing-child searches ever, with global media coverage, huge police efforts, and endless leads that never quite panned out.

Fast-forward to these Epstein files, released by the U.S. Department of Justice. Among all the material tied to Epstein’s crimes and Maxwell’s 2021 conviction for sex trafficking, there’s one witness statement from July 2020 (though it describes something from 2009) that caught everyone’s eye. An unnamed person in the UK wrote about a sighting on a quiet Sunday in September 2009.
They said they were walking along a main road when they ended up behind a woman holding hands with a young girl, maybe around six years old. A man was walking ahead separately. As they got closer, the witness thought the girl looked a lot like Madeleine McCann. The woman seemed rushed and annoyed that someone was nearby. What really stood out: the little girl kept her hand over her right eye the whole time and kept glancing back at the witness.
The statement added that the woman “looked just like Ghislaine Maxwell.” The witness mentioned reporting it to local police back then but only thought to send it to the FBI years later after seeing social media posts about Maxwell and theories tying her to Madeleine’s case.
That detail about the eye is chilling because Madeleine had a rare iris coloboma in her right eye, something her family always emphasized in posters and alerts since it could cause light sensitivity and made her recognizable.
The mention has also brought back attention to a 2009 e-fit sketch from private investigators hired by the McCanns. It showed a woman seen acting suspiciously in Barcelona shortly after Madeleine vanished, described in the press as a “Victoria Beckham lookalike” with short dark hair, around 30-35 years old.
Some people online have pointed out how much the sketch resembles Maxwell, especially with the short black hair she had back then. But it’s worth stressing—no official investigation has ever confirmed any connection, and authorities have been clear that this witness account is just one unverified tip among many in the massive Epstein document dump.
The DOJ even noted in their release that public submissions can include false or misleading info, and this doesn’t change the official stance on Madeleine’s case. No new probes have been launched because of it, and both U.S. and UK officials say there’s no solid evidence linking Epstein or Maxwell to the disappearance.
Madeleine would be in her early 20s now if she’s still out there, and her family—along with so many others—still holds out hope. Cases like this remind us how one tiny detail in a huge file can spark endless questions and theories, even if the truth remains out of reach.
What do you make of it? Do these coincidences feel like something more, or just another heartbreaking false lead in a case that’s already seen too many? Share your thoughts below.
