Erika Kirk Opens Up About Why She Doesn’t Believe America Has “a Gun Problem” — Even After Her Husband Charlie Was Assassinated

In September, Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. The news hit like a bomb. For his wife Erika, it meant becoming a widow and raising their two young children alone virtually overnight.

The man accused of pulling the trigger, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested after a nationwide search and now faces charges that include aggravated murder.

In the weeks and months that followed, Erika didn’t retreat. Instead, she stepped up — taking over as CEO of Turning Point USA and vowing to keep her husband’s voice alive.

“We’ll never be silenced,” she told listeners on The Charlie Kirk Show shortly after the tragedy. “Continuing his work in an honorable way is how we make sure Charlie is never truly gone.”

Even though her husband was gunned down in broad daylight, Erika has been unwavering in her support for the Second Amendment. She recently spoke about it openly at The New York Times DealBook Summit on December 3.

She told the audience that blaming the gun misses the real issue.

“What I’ve come to see through all of this pain,” she said, “is that there will always be individuals who turn to violence. What scares me most is that we’re living in a time when some people believe violence is the answer simply because they don’t want to hear an opinion that’s different from theirs.

That’s not a gun problem. That’s a human problem — a soul problem, a heart problem, something much deeper than any piece of metal. I wouldn’t wish this kind of loss on anyone, but I still fully support the Second Amendment.”

Her words have sparked a lot of conversation, especially coming from someone who has every reason to feel differently.
