Expert Shares Insight on Alex Pretti’s Gun That Might Explain Why Border Patrol Agent Shot Him
Just weeks after the heartbreaking death of 37-year-old mom Renee Good sparked nationwide outrage, another American has lost their life in what looks like a totally preventable tragedy.
Pretti, who worked as an ICU nurse and often lent a hand to U.S. military veterans, got into a scuffle with ICE agents on Saturday, January 24. He was pepper-sprayed, pinned down, and then shot several times from close range.

ICE has been all over Minneapolis lately, trying to detain people they suspect are in the country illegally. Tensions have been boiling over with protesters, and the shooting of Renee Good back on January 7 left millions shaking their heads in disbelief.
This weekend brought more sorrow with what seems like another innocent person caught in a needless deadly encounter. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed Pretti pulled a gun on the agents, saying he was out to cause “maximum damage” and “massacre law enforcement.”
On top of that, Donald Trump jumped on social media, calling Pretti a gunman and posting a photo of the weapon they took from him.
But just like with Good’s case, videos have surfaced that seem to poke holes in those early stories. Reports say Pretti had a legal permit for his gun, and agents actually pulled the firearm from his holster before they fired the fatal shots.
One video clip shows the nurse stepping in to shield two women, with nothing but his phone in his hand.
No one’s denying Pretti was carrying a gun, and now an expert is weighing in on how that handgun might have played a role in his untimely death—maybe even accidentally.
Rob Doar, a lawyer with the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus, thinks the gun could have discharged by mistake when an agent grabbed it, prompting another agent to open fire thinking they were being attacked.
In a post on X, he said: “I think it’s very possible the initial shot was an accidental fire from the agent in the gray jacket after yanking the Sig P320 out of Pretti’s holster as they were leaving.”
Footage also indicates the shots that killed Pretti were unnecessary—he’d already been disarmed and was down on the ground, restrained.
With the Trump administration painting the 37-year-old as a danger to ICE officers, his family fired back with a statement blasting the “sickening lies.”
“The disgusting falsehoods spread about our son by this administration are beyond reprehensible. Alex isn’t holding a gun at all when those cowardly ICE thugs under Trump attack him,” they stated.
“He’s got his phone in his right hand, his empty left hand up over his head, all while shielding the woman ICE shoved down and getting hit with pepper spray.
“Please help spread the real story about our son. He was a kind-hearted man.”
