Fans worry about John Goodman’s health as he flaunts his 200-pound weight loss
Over the past two decades, John Goodman has experienced a remarkable journey of weight loss. After kicking drugs in 2007, the actor—who starred in movies including The Big Lebowski and the television show Roseanne—decided he had had enough and has now shed over 200 pounds.
On Wednesday, Goodman made an appearance at the new Smurf movie’s premiere, displaying his new, playful look. Instead of applauding his weight loss on social media, fans now worry about his health. John Goodman has battled his weight throughout his life and profession. He weighed about 400 pounds at his heaviest.

Every spring, I would leave Roseanne. In 2011, he told David Letterman, “Every spring, I would lose sixty pounds.” Every year, I would regain it and more. It will be a continuous process for the remainder of my life. Goodman decided it was time for a change after spending time in treatment for his drinking issue in 2007.
Mackie Shilstone, a personal trainer and fitness expert who had previously worked with tennis player Serena Williams, was engaged by him. He was soon headed in the direction of a healthy lifestyle. Goodman exercised five to six times a week and followed a diet high in Mediterranean cuisine, such as fish, almonds, olive oil, vegetables, and fruit.
Goodman shed more than 100 pounds in 2010 after he committed to a new diet and exercise regimen. “This has been a continuous process — it didn’t happen overnight,” Shilstone told the New York Post. It is necessary to plan strategically. He was determined to accomplish it this time.
In 2016, Goodman told ABC, “I just stopped eating all the time.” When I had a handful of food, it would end up in my mouth. All I was doing was eating intoxicatedly. I used to take three months off, drop sixty or seventy pounds, celebrate myself with a six-pack of Bud or something, and then simply resume my previous routine. “I’m getting to the age where I can no longer afford to sit still,” he continued. I simply grew weary of staring at my reflection. You don’t want to see yourself when you’re shaving in front of the mirror. It becomes risky.
John Goodman persisted in his commitment to living a healthier, new life. He claimed to have shed 200 pounds and discovered a love for boxing in an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine in 2023. It normally only takes an hour or an hour and a half to learn footwork, hit the mitts, and hit the bags, he said. It’s fantastic.
In addition to leading a healthy lifestyle, John Goodman has continued to be a Hollywood celebrity. Over the past ten years, the now 73-year-old has consistently found employment as a voice actor in animated films as well as an in-person actor. Unfortunately, he had to be taken to the hospital after an accident on set earlier this year. Goodman described his hip injury as a “real accident” in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on July 11.
For a week and a half, we had been working on the scene. After some effort, I eventually made a breakthrough since I wasn’t quite getting it right. We were blocking it after that, though, and I was still wearing stocking feet, just like I had been for the previous week and a half.
My legs simply fell to the ground as I was passing Tom, and I landed on my hip after rising parallel to the ground. When I was unable to get back up, I began to worry about the worst. It wasn’t until we took X-rays that I realized I had broken it,” he stated.
“There was a brilliant doctor on set, and he got me into the Cleveland Clinic [in London],” John Goodman added. So far, so good. They operated the following morning. Regretfully, I was unable to do anything there for roughly a month, and it drove me crazy. After they discovered other activities, I eventually returned to it.
Fortunately, the actor has recovered and recently made an appearance in the latest Smurfs film as a voice actor. Goodman displayed even more noticeable weight loss when he made an appearance at the Smurfs premiere in Los Angeles on July 13. Fans were both impressed and concerned this time, though.
Supporters expressed their worries about John Goodman on social media, with one user writing, “He looks terribly gaunt.” “Not good,” one person said, while another said, “He looks awful now.” “Unfortunately, you look unhealthy when you lose a significant amount of weight in middle adulthood because your skin doesn’t have the collagen it needs to prevent sagging skin,” a third person commented.
Others wondered if John Goodman had been using Ozempic, a medication used to help people lose weight. Nevertheless, the star received a lot of accolades for his amazing 200-pound weight loss. One person commented, “Wow, good for him.” “He looks totally different,” said another. Bravo to him for dropping two hundred pounds.
“He looks completely different,” said a third commenter. John did a great job, and a fourth person exclaimed, “Gosh, he did a good job!” How do you feel about John Goodman’s recent appearance? Kindly let us know what you think in the Facebook comment section!
