Harry and Meghan Pull Archie and Lilibet From UK School After 2 Days Over Security

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have already pulled Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet out of their new British school, only two days after the children started term. The family had just returned to the UK after six years in California and enrolled the kids before they even landed, hoping to settle them quickly. That plan lasted barely a week.

The Duke and Duchess arrived back in late August and have been staying in the Cotswolds while they look for a longer term home. Archie is seven and Lilibet is five. Their school was never named publicly, mainly for security.

Even so, the move stirred plenty of noise. In early September a royal insider told Page Six that parents at the school received a letter warning that some new families might draw extra public and media attention. Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield said the note asked families not to photograph or film other children without permission and not to share details about pupils or their families on social media. The school said it wanted a safe, happy and private environment for every child. Schofield also said Harry and Meghan had approached more than one school before they arrived.

Then the school run itself became the problem. A spokesperson for the couple told Sky News and other outlets that the children were moved after a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of the current arrangements. “The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family. This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there.”

Hello! magazine reported that the distance between home and school, plus heavy traffic on the route, put strain on the couple’s small private security team. One incident made it hard for their vehicles to stay in convoy, which raised further worry. A friend of the family told the magazine it was a real shame because the children adored the school, the other kids and the parents. “It was perfect for them in every way, and the children really enjoyed their time there. They really wanted to make it work, but they had to make a difficult decision based on the fact that the team couldn’t make the school run operationally secure.”

Archie and Lilibet have already visited another school in the area for a taster session. Harry was seen settling Lilibet into reception, and the couple have been added to the parents’ WhatsApp groups.

The timing sits on top of a bigger fight. The Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures, known as Ravec, is reviewing whether Harry and Meghan should receive taxpayer funded police protection now that they live in Britain again. The Risk Management Board is carrying out a threat assessment. Meghan’s arrangements are getting their first government backed review since the couple stepped back as working royals in 2020.

Online reaction came fast and harsh. Some accused the couple of using the children as pawns. Others said any normal parent would have checked the school run before term started. A few called the parents paranoid and said the children were being put through another upheaval for no good reason.
