In Texas floodwaters, a young father loses his life rescuing his fiancée, children, and mother

Stories of destruction and survival surfaced when devastating floodwaters swept through areas of Texas over the Fourth of July weekend, but none were more tragic than the one involving 27-year-old Julian Ryan.

When the flash floods struck at around 4 a.m. on Friday, Julian was at home in Ingram, Texas, with his mother, his fiancée Christina Wilson, and their two small children, who were just six and thirteen months old. In just a few minutes, their trailer filled with water, turning what had started out as a typical night into a nightmare.

Julian moved quickly because he had no time to wait for assistance. To allow his family to flee to the roof, he punched through a window. However, he cut an artery in the process, which his fiancée claimed almost severed his arm.

Christina told KHOU 11 that her spouse had passed away around six o’clock. All of his blood was gone. He said, “Sorry, I’m not going to make it, I love you all,” after glancing at me, the children, and my mother-in-law.

This was his last farewell. Julian’s entire family was saved because to his brave deed. Because of the gap he made, Julian’s mother, Christina, and their kids all lived. However, the price was too high.

Christina discovered Julian’s body as the floods had subsided. Officials were unable to retrieve him for hours. Still grieving, his mother referred to her son as “the hero of this story.” Christina said, “He sacrificed everything for us to survive.” Julian’s death is only one of at least 82 that have been reported in Texas as a result of the devastating flooding.

According to authorities, rivers like the Guadalupe swelled up to 26 feet after more than a month’s worth of rain poured in a few hours. There were 28 children among the victims. Julian lived in Kerr County, which was one of the most severely affected.

Since then, Texas has proclaimed a state of emergency. Over 100 troopers, rescue boats, helicopters, and high-water vehicles have been sent out throughout the area by officials. One of the heroes was Petty Officer Scott Ruskin, a U.S. Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer, who personally rescued an astounding 165 individuals during the devastating floods.

“They have been working all day,” stated Texas Department of Public Safety Col. Freeman Martin, referring to rescues, high water vehicles, boats, and rescue divers. “We will stop at nothing to ensure that every asset, person, plane, whatever is needed, is going to be involved in the process of rescuing every last person,” Governor Greg Abbott declared.

The problem was also noted by President Trump, who described it as a “terrible thing” and pledged assistance, saying, “It looks like some young people have died.” The loss for Julian’s family is new, but so is their resolve to make sure his sacrifice is never forgotten.

To stop tragedies in the future, they are now demanding better warning systems, such as flood sirens. Christina remarked, “He shouldn’t have had to die.” “However, he saved us.” Over $88,000 has already been received through a GoFundMe page created to assist the family.

No cape was worn by Julian Ryan. He made no request for praise. But he made the brave and loving decision in the midst of chaos. He is a real hero because of that. 💔
