Joe Biden’s Cancer Spreading to Bones, Son Says in Emotional BBC Interview

Hunter Biden sat down with the BBC this past Friday and spoke openly about the tough reality his family is facing with his father’s health. The 83 year old former president’s aggressive prostate cancer has continued to progress, spreading further into his bones and beyond. Hunter described the daily impact as genuinely hard to witness.

“The cancer has spread, metastasised into his bones and further,” he said. “It’s very painful and it’s very debilitating in many respects. It’s really sad to watch.”

He admitted something many sons might relate to when watching a parent push through serious illness. His father remains characteristically stoic, and that resilience is both admirable and frustrating to those closest to him. “The only thing that I’d say about my dad, about his health right now, is I wish he would complain more. Because it’s not good.”

Even as the disease takes a heavier toll, Hunter said Joe Biden has not withdrawn from the things that have always defined him. “He’s still doing his thing. He so believes in this country.”

Joe Biden was diagnosed in May 2025 after doctors found a prostate nodule linked to increasing urinary symptoms. The cancer carried a Gleason score of nine, placing it in the highest and most aggressive category, and it had already reached the bone by the time it was identified. The diagnosis came months after he left the White House. Jill Biden has spoken about noticing her husband waking as many as seven times a night during his final year in office and raising the concern with White House physicians at the time. She has said she assumed the issue had been handled, only for the problem to continue after they returned to private life.

Despite the advancing illness, Biden has still made select public appearances this summer. Hunter’s words make clear that the private cost of those moments is higher than most people see.
