Karoline Leavitt Slammed by Newsmax’s Greg Kelly After Revealing Trump’s Private Starmer Lunch
Former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt is taking heat from some of her own side after she went on Sean Hannity’s podcast and walked listeners through private conversations President Donald Trump had with world leaders.
Leavitt left the briefing room earlier this year. The announcement landed in August, less than a month after she came back from maternity leave following the birth of her second child. Trump posted on Truth Social that it was a decision he totally understood and respected. He called her one of the best White House press secretaries in the history of the office and thanked her for a job well done.
She is out of the West Wing now, but she is still making news. A few days ago she sat down on Hang Out with Sean Hannity and started talking about what it was actually like when Trump met with foreign leaders behind closed doors. She described tense calls with advisers and then zeroed in on a lunch with then British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
According to Leavitt, she was at the table with them in a beautiful setting in the United Kingdom. Everyone was eating when the president suddenly tore into Starmer over British policy. She recalled him saying the policies were so stupid, that Britain needed to close its borders, and that it needed to deport people already in the country. She said Trump told Starmer he knew the country and the people, and that they hated what he was doing. Starmer, she said, just sat there. She and Stephen Miller looked at each other like they knew what was coming.
Leavitt argued that this is simply how Trump operates with allies and adversaries alike. What he tells the cameras, she said, is the same thing he says in private. A lot of what happens in those rooms eventually becomes public because he is blunt and he does not dress it up.
She also said the president curses a lot in ordinary conversation but keeps translator assisted calls more direct and professional. On China, she described Trump pressing President Xi Jinping during a meeting in South Korea to buy more American soybeans for U.S. farmers. She said that after the meeting, they did.
Plenty of people liked hearing her pull the curtain back. Greg Kelly, the Newsmax host, did not. He went on X and accused her of gossiping about private meetings with world leaders now that she is no longer press secretary. He said it was happening in the middle of midterm madness, called it a breach of trust to the president and the nation, and labeled the whole thing immature.
Trump has not publicly responded to the interview. Leavitt has not answered Kelly either.
