Online posts quickly linked the moment to her departure, with some claiming she looked isolated or worried in the hours leading up to the news.
A professional lip reader named Nicola Hickling examined the footage and shared her interpretation. She said Leavitt appeared to ask Harp, “Are you sure?” Harp, according to the reading, responded, “We don’t like it. Natalie Harp has drawn attention for other reasons as well. Letters she wrote in 2023, published in full by the Daily Beast, showed her deep personal loyalty to Trump. In one she wrote, “You’re all that matters to me,” and described herself as “unworthy” of the president.
Harp, who joined Trump’s team in 2022 after a career as a conservative television host, has stayed by his side through the campaign and into the White House. She is often described as far more than a typical aide, staying late to help draft social media posts, sending messages on his behalf, and maintaining a constant presence near the Oval Office.
Whether the Marine One exchange played any role in Leavitt’s exit is still pure speculation. Official statements from both Trump and Leavitt continue to frame the departure as a personal choice focused on family.
