Kenny Chesney finally opens up on why her marriage with Renée Zellweger ended abruptly

In 2005, Kenny Chesney and Renée Zellweger decided to get married and one can say their match was made in heaven. It came as a shock to many when they decided to end things in a very short while, typical celebrity marriages.

There are always celebrity divorces, but theirs stood out as the marriage was barely four months old when Zellweger decided to end the union.

It’s hard to understand what happened to them if one doesn’t go back in time to when they met for the first time in a club.

Zellweger worked as a cocktail waitress in Austin, Texas before she became an actress while Kenny performed at local clubs in Johnson City.

The press got wind of their affair in 2005 and they were tagged as the most ”unlikely pair” but what many didn’t know was that they complimented each other perfectly.

Their first meeting was during NBC’s broadcast “Concert of Hope, a tsunami aid telethon in January 2005. The great attraction they felt when they first saw each other was comparable to know.

“When the broadcast wrapped, [Chesney] went over [to Zellweger] and said, ‘I hear you are trying to pass me a note — don’t let the principal find out,’” a friend of Zellweger’s told People.

The duo announced their relationship four months after meeting at the broadcast.

According to Kenny, he never proposed to Renee.

“She just told me to name a time and place, and she’d be there,” he later told USA Today.

“It’s a quick, surprise wedding, kind of a shocker for all of us here in Hollywood who did not see it coming,” said correspondent Mark Steins of “Entertainment Tonight,” who broke the story back in 2005.

Only a few guests were invited to the wedding as it was a secret wedding.

“I am incredibly happy. I may well be the luckiest man alive. To be so in love with someone who is so perfect for me. It’s just hard to imagine that I’m not going to wake up,” Chesney said in a statement as he released the first official photos from the wedding, taken by Carolina Herrera.

225 days after the wedding, Zellweger went on to annul the marriage, citing fraud as the reason.

The public wasn’t accepting her reasons and rumors of Chesney being gay started making rounds.

”That made me sad. It made me sad that somehow people were using that as a way to be cruel and calling someone gay as a pejorative, which has fateful consequences. Of course, there’s the bigger-picture problem of why anyone had to make up a story at all,” Zellweger said.

Five years after the ordeal Kenny opened up about their divorce.

He said he was simply not ready for marriage and couldn’t get Zellweger into his life.

”It really is tough, and she’s a sweet soul, no doubt about it, but I just wasn’t ready…. This is the first time I’ve actually talked about it, but that’s what happened.”

They have moved on with their lives and have gone on with their private affairs and career.
