King Charles Planning a Big US Trip Next Year – Even With His Cancer Battle Ongoing
It looks like 2026 is going to be a busy one for King Charles. Despite everything he’s going through with his health, he’s reportedly accepted an invitation from President Trump for a full state visit to the United States next spring.
The trip is timed around America’s 250th anniversary celebrations, with the main events leading up to July 4th. According to friends of the palace quoted in The Sun, Charles and Camilla are expected to arrive in April for what Trump apparently wants to be a proper, old-school lavish state visit – think carriages, banquets, the works.

Of course, the news has sparked a lot of concern too. Charles is still having treatment for the cancer he was diagnosed with early last year, and the exact type has never been made public. When he’s been asked lately how he’s feeling, he tends to give the classic British answer: “Not too bad” or “Getting there.”
Back in September, while opening a new hospital in Birmingham, he had a very honest chat with a couple of cancer patients. One gentleman told him, “I’m wearing out,” and Charles laughed and said, “I know, this is the terrible thing – I’m discovering the bits don’t work so well when you get past 70.” With another patient who has prostate cancer, he talked about how early detection is everything and how medicine keeps getting better, adding quietly, “There’s always hope down the road.”
The tougher updates have come from royal commentators rather than the palace itself. Earlier this year, Camilla Tominey wrote in The Telegraph that people close to the King now believe his cancer is something he’ll live with long-term rather than something that will ever fully go away. The phrase being used is that he may eventually die “with” cancer, not “of” it, thanks to ongoing treatment. It’s a sobering thought for someone who only became king three years ago.
Still, if anyone was going to push through a demanding overseas tours while on treatment, it’s probably Charles. He’s waited his whole life for this job and he’s determined to keep doing it as long as he possibly can.
Whether the US trip ends up going ahead at full scale or gets scaled back will obviously depend on how he’s feeling closer to the time. For now, everyone’s just wishing him well and hoping 2026 brings better news on the health front.
What do you think – should he go for it, or take it easier?
