They finally got to meet each other after Elvis divorced his first wife, Priscilla Presley and they welcomed their daughter,  Lisa Marie Presley.

Elvis and Linda met each other at a screening and Linda had no idea he has divorced his wife.

“He said, ‘I’ve been separated since the end of the year. We’re getting a divorce. She’s met somebody else and she’s moved on. I said, ‘Oh, well I’m sorry to hear that but you should have married a southern girl. And he never forgot that.”

Shortly after, they started dating and it was a great moment for both of them.

Linda told Closer, “I was always a fan, but I didn’t think he would transcend time and space and become the iconic, almost religion he is now.”

Linda in her book wrote about their relationship.

“Ours was a complete relationship—when the need arose, we got to be everything to each other. He was almost sixteen years older than I and so it was natural for me to sometimes be the little girl, with him playing the daddy.

More often than not, though, I was the mommy, and he was the baby,” Linda Thompson writes. “Sometimes we were lovers, sometimes we were brother and sister. Sometimes we were best friends. We were all things to each other at one time or another. And Elvis was always, always everything to me.“

During their stay together, Linda got to notice how Elvis’s health was deteriorating. He was once hospitalized after Linda found him in bed unable to breathe.

His condition wasn’t getting any better and Linda had her career to worry about.

She had to leave to focus on her career, but they always kept in touch.

Sadly, Elvis passed away on Aug 16, 1977, at the age of 42.

A few days before his death, Linda reached out to him and wanted to make sure he was okay.

May his soul rest in peace.
