Michelle Obama Calls Barack a ‘Bully’ Over Steven Spielberg Movies in Hilarious Podcast Moment
Michelle Obama recently opened up on her podcast in a way that had everyone smiling and nodding along. She playfully called out Barack Obama for being a bit of a bully when it comes to Steven Spielberg films. It was all in good fun during an episode of IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson where they chatted with the legendary director himself.
The moment came up while talking about Spielberg’s upcoming movie Disclosure Day which hits theaters on June 12. Michelle mentioned how her husband gets impatient about wanting early access to these films. She told Spielberg something like My husband is a bully to you when it comes to your movies. I always have to reprimand him because you haven’t let him see this one yet and he’s pretty mad about it.

Spielberg laughed it off and joked back that Barack had threatened to watch the film only on his iPhone and held vertically which got a good chuckle from everyone. It was that kind of light easy banter that feels so relatable.
The conversation flowed naturally from there. Michelle turned to her brother and cohost Craig who jumped in with That’s not nice. Spielberg shared how Barack had actually visited the set of the film and it was a big deal for the younger actors. He described it as almost a religious experience for them seeing the former president in person. They only knew him from that larger than life role he played in history.
Michelle added her own family touch saying that their daughter Malia who works in filmmaking herself never invites them to her projects which brought more warm laughter from the group.
Beyond the jokes this episode fits right into how the Obamas have always been honest about their marriage. They have been together for over 30 years now and Michelle has spoken before about the tough stretches that every long relationship goes through. She has said things like if you do not let people know about the hard times they might quit too soon. Or that you cannot just walk away at the first rough patch. You have to dig deeper and that is where the real good stuff comes from.
She once even admitted there was a decade where she could not stand Barack but framed it as part of the work they put in to make their bond stronger over time. It is refreshing to hear public figures talk about marriage this way without pretending it is all perfect.
People seem to connect with these stories because they make the Obamas feel more human. The Spielberg story gave the movie some nice publicity too without it feeling forced. It was just a former president acting like any eager movie fan who hates spoilers and wants to be first to see something good.
Overall it was another reminder that even after all these years the Obamas keep things real with each other and with the rest of us listening in.
