Shocking Find in Hotel Room Linked to Nick Reiner After Parents’ Tragic Deaths

It’s hard to wrap your head around something this heartbreaking. Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of legendary director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, was arrested late Sunday night on suspicion of murdering his parents. The couple was found stabbed to death in their Brentwood home in Los Angeles that afternoon, around 3:40 p.m. Police say their daughter Romy discovered the bodies.

By evening, authorities tracked down Nick in South LA near USC and took him into custody around 9:15 p.m. He’s now being held without bail as the investigation continues.

Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell called it “a very tragic incident” during a press conference, extending condolences to the family and friends.

Details are still emerging about what exactly happened, but reports point to tensions building up. Sources say Rob and Nick had a heated argument at a holiday party hosted by Conan O’Brien the night before—loud enough that others noticed. Nick has struggled with substance abuse for years, going in and out of rehab since his teens and even experiencing homelessness at times.

The family even turned some of those painful experiences into the 2015 film “Being Charlie,” which Rob directed and Nick co-wrote—a story about a young man’s battle with addiction.

The Disturbing Hotel Discovery

Things took an even darker turn with what happened next. After the party argument, Nick reportedly checked into The Pierside hotel in Santa Monica around 4 a.m. Sunday morning, paying with his credit card. He never formally checked out.

When staff went into the room later that day, they were horrified to find the shower filled with blood, splatters on the bed, and sheets hung over the windows. Witnesses who saw him check in described him as looking “tweaked out” or off, but notably, he had no visible blood, cuts, or signs of a fight on him at that point.

On Monday, detectives from LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division visited the hotel to collect evidence and speak with employees.

This whole story is just devastating—a family torn apart in the worst way imaginable. Rest in peace to Rob and Michele Reiner, whose lives touched so many through film and beyond.
