Tragic Loss of Prom King: 17-Year-Old Ayden Beeson Found Dead in Iowa

A heartbreaking incident occurred this summer in Appanoose County, Iowa, as tragedy struck the community with the untimely death of 17-year-old Ayden Beeson, a beloved high school student and Prom King. On June 26, 2024, Ayden was swimming at Rathbun Lake when he disappeared beneath the surface and did not resurface.

The Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office quickly responded to a 911 call regarding a potential drowning. Both the Sheriff’s Office and the Appanoose County Water Rescue team launched a search operation in a desperate effort to find Ayden. Sadly, the search ended in sorrow when the Water Rescue team located his body in 15 to 20 feet of water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ayden was not only recognized for his achievements but was also a cherished member of the Centerville School District. He was a respected leader on the football field, an accomplished tennis player, and was voted Prom King just before his graduation this past spring. Superintendent Mark Taylor described Ayden as a remarkable young man who touched many lives in the community. “Such a great kid being lost in the prime of his life is just devastating for our community, for the family, and for the lives he was going to impact. He was nice to everybody, really popular; there wasn’t a single person in that school he couldn’t be kind to,” Taylor expressed.

The day after Ayden’s passing, the Centerville Community Schools shared a message on their Facebook page mourning the loss of one of their students. They emphasized that Ayden was an active participant in the school community and was well-known for his genuine kindness and friendliness.

Rest in peace, Ayden Beeson. The community will remember you fondly.
