Trump accuses Sydney Sweeney and “Woke” Taylor Swift of being “losers” and refers to Sweeney’s advertisement as the “Hottest
By portraying Taylor Swift and Sydney Sweeney as opposite extremes of the celebrity spectrum, Donald Trump is putting them against one another.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Aug. 3, Trump lauded Sweeney and her contentious American Eagle campaign, which has drawn criticism for its alleged negative connotations, after learning that Sweeney is a registered Republican.

The president went farther with his newfound love for Sweeney in a Monday morning Truth Social post, drawing a comparison between his admiration for the actress and his “hate” for Swift, who supported Democrat Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
“Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ commercial out there. The jeans, which are for American Eagle, are “flying off the shelves.” He wrote, “Go get ’em, Sydney!” on August 4.
The president then turned the discussion to Swift, who has been a regular focus of his ire over the past year, after criticizing advertisements from other businesses including Bud Light and Jaguar that he called “woke.” He stated, “Just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift,” in the post. Since I declared on TRUTH that I detest her, I have been warning the world about what she was. She became “NO LONGER HOT” after being jeered out of the Super Bowl. The tide has really reversed, he added. “Being WOKE is for losers, and being Republican is what you want to be,” he said. I appreciate you taking the time to consider this.

After Swift supported Harris for president in September 2024, the president’s contemporary criticism of her intensified. Trump posted, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” in response to the endorsement.
Trump tried to turn his MAGA fans against Swift, but his granddaughter Arabella still loved the “Blank Space” singer. In fact, she celebrated her 13th birthday with her mother Ivanka at the Eras Tour in October.
Although Sweeney has not openly endorsed Trump or remarked on her political affiliation, Buzzfeed News was the first to report on her party preference in the wake of her contentious new collaboration with American Eagle. The “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” ad campaign, which capitalized on the word “genes,” was criticized for suggesting that she was genetically better by emphasizing her blue eyes and blonde hair.
The infamous 1980 Calvin Klein commercial with Brooke Shields was also compared to the jeans campaign. Because of the commercial’s controversial tagline, Shields’ age (she was 15 at the time) caused controversy: “You want to know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing. Similar messaging about transferring traits from one generation to the next was also included.
